Wetherby Athletic (York 4) lined up against a high scoring Kippax FC Reserve team, knowing that just 90 minutes lay between them and the final of the cup that they have won for the last three seasons!
Athletic started the brightest and several chances came and went.
It took until the 13th minute for Wetherby to open the scoring. Chris Travena's free-kick was headed backwards by a Kippax defender and Anthony Walsh nipped in to head over the keeper and into the net.
Six minutes later, Wetherby were two up and in control of the game. Whipping in a good cross, David Pawson found Player-Manager Chris Plews, who controlled, turned and fired his shot into the bottom corner.
Easing off a bit, Wetherby allowed Kippax to get back into the game and just before half time, an own goal made the score 2-1.
The second half saw Wetherby pin Kippax in their own half for large periods, however there was a bit of wasteful finishing from the visitors.
In the end, Wetherby made the game safe when David Pawson shrugged off his marker and fired in a fierce shot from the edge of the area.
