1. State's rights: the rights of states.

2. Kansas-Nebraska act: this act allowed the Kansas and Nebraska territorios to decide whether to be free or slave states

3. Dred scott decision: a decision that dealt anti slavery forces

4. Secede: formally withdraw

5. Unionists: people who wanted to stay in the Union and work out differences over slavery

6. Confederate states: the confederacy

7. Sovereignty: supremacy

8. People won't allowed to help runaway slaves

9. People who were caught with runaway slaves were hung

10. Texas entered the union in 1845
