weekly school News

1. #thankfulThursday: As we celebrate the ten days of kindness at MIS, the office staff would like your help in recognizing our staff. Please take a few moments and use the link below to provide some encouragement to those folks that are making a major difference in your child's future. These comments can be anonymous, or you can provide your name. The office staff will use the provided comments every Thursday for our #thankfulThursday movement. The attached form can be completed, as little or often as you like, throughout the entire school year. We appreciate your support in growing the culture of gratitude that already exists at MIS!!

A couple positive comments already submitted:

"Mrs. Gibson, you help me when I'm stressed on my work or when I am upset about something. Thank You!"

"Mrs. Watts and Mrs. White are always helpful, answer any questions I have and always make work fun."

2. 6th Grade After School Choir Opportunity

3. NWEA Testing Window: The NWEA Assessment Window has closed. You will have access to your student's report in the Powerschool Parent Portal on or shortly after December 18th.

4. Math Bowl Try-Outs: Try-outs will occur after school on December 19th. If your child plans to participate, please be sure to make the appropriate changes in School Dismissal Manager.

5. Rally for Riley: Thanks to the generosity of our parents, students and staff, we raised over $700 last week for Riley Hospital.

6. Environmental Club News: The Environmental Club is still collecting plastic bags - bags from grocery stores, Walmart, etc. They will be weaving these into mats for the homeless.

In addition, the Environmental Club will be raising money for the Arbor Day Foundation next week, December 16th to December 20th. The Arbor Day Foundation has partnered with YouTube star and philanthropist, Mr. Beast to raise $20million by January 1, 2020, so that they can plant 20 million trees starting in January 2020. Each dollar donated equals one tree planted in the ground. The Arbor Day Foundation is currently at $17,810,828.

Why should I contribute? Trees remove carbon dioxide from the air and create oxygen that we need to breathe. With the amount of trees lost in the fires in the Amazon rainforest this year, and the number of trees being cut down to make way for development, the need for planting trees is at an all time high.

How can I donate? The Environmental Club will be accepting money at lunch to donate to this cause. Our goal is $500 which will plant 500 trees. For each dollar you contribute, you will be given a tree to write your name on, AND the tree will be displayed in the MIS entryway for everyone to see.

8. School Dismissal Manager (CLICK FOR INSTRUCTIONS):

Maxwell Intermediate School utilizes the School Dismissal Manager program or app to safely manage transportation arrangements for our students at the end of the day. Parents may also report absences or schedule early dismissal for appointments. We are fully using SDM at this time. Any change you need to make to your child's after school transportation should be done through this prior to 1:00pm. If you have any questions regarding this program, please do not hesitate to contact our office at (317)326-3121.
