Daniel Handler, otherwise known as Lemony Snicket, is an American author who has written many novels within his time. Handler was born in San Francisco, California on February 28, 1970. He attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut where he wrote his very first novel! Shortly after finishing, he decided to throw it away. Handler actually got into poetry at this time and even was awarded with the 1990 Poets Prize by the Academy of American Poets. He then wrote a few more novels while working as a movie reviewer and reading manuscripts for a literary agent. Daniel got frustrated as his novel kept getting rejected so he created a reading group called "Great Writers Who Can't Get Published." Finally, he published a novel called The Basic Eight, then two years after came out with Watch Your Mouth. After these novels, Handler decided to appeal to a younger crowd with his books in A Series of Unfortunate Events. This series is his most well-known as it became an international best-seller.

Her and seven friends call themselves "The Basic Eight", within them there are stories of love interest, secrets, self-discoveries, and even murder.
Watch Your Mouth (2000)
Begins as an opera where each character is given a singing voice. Joseph spends his college summer with his Jewish girlfriend in Pennsylvania. Joseph has many conflicts in the book that he tries to solve through the opera.
Adverbs goes through seventeen different peoples love stories. Each title is written as an adverb of the type of love. It focuses on the way that people fall in love instead of a love story about whom they fall in love with.
Why We Broke Up (2011)
Ed and Min were in a high school relationship, until November 12th when they broke up. Min writes letters to give to Ed about their relationship. She returns all of the objects and the letters onto his doorstep for him to understand why they broke up.

Daniel Handler took the pen name Lemony Snicket when he decided that he wanted to write for a younger crowd. His first books under this name was the book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events. In these books, he actually is portrayed as a character in the book. Snicket is a writer and photographer who was convicted of multiple felonies. His love interest, Beatrice, was committed to their marriage until new of Lemony passing had occurred. That is when Beatrice moved on and decided to remarry in which she had 3 kids; Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. These three were the main characters behind the series. He takes a role in each of his books which is interesting to read a fictional book where the author plays a character role also. Another series he wrote under Lemony Snicket was All the Wrong Questions. In this series, it is completely about Lemony Snicket's young life. This is a prequel to the Series of Unfortunate Events.
Movies & Shows
A Series of Unfortunate Events was created into a movie in 2004. In this film, Jim Carrey took the lead role of Count Olaf. Daniel Handler adapted the screenplay and even guided Carrey through his work being the Olaf he had portrayed in the books. The film was low budget but grossed approximately $209 million worldwide. It even won an Academy Award for Best Makeup.
