So Much to Celebrate Our students and staff make me proud

In this new monthly newsletter for families, we will shine the spotlight onto our students and staff and highlight their successes, while also informing our families about important news and updates. Bend-La Pine Schools is home to 18,400 students and I believe each one of those students has a story worth sharing.

Our mission is for every student within our schools to be known by name, strengths and needs – and to graduate ready for the futures they choose.

Academic excellence

We work to build upon our successes in order to deliver the best teaching and learning environment in Oregon.

We celebrated our best ever graduation rate. This historic graduation rate has increased nearly 14 percentage points in the last seven years alone.

The Class of 2018 received more than $13 million in college scholarship offers, includes two National Merit Finalists and more than 340 students who earned honors diplomas.

Award-winning staff

Our schools are home to rich music, physical education and art programs at all levels and we have incredible staff members delivering content to our students.

This year alone, our staff members were named:

  • School librarian of the year
  • Art teacher of the year
  • Social studies teacher of the year
  • Finalist for the Presidential Math Award (Monet Biancucci, pictured here).

Engaged, well-rounded

Beyond rigorous academic programs, our schools are also home to state and national award-winning activities including: newspaper, band, speech and debate, robotics, DECA, Future Farmers of America, Future Business Leaders of America and more. This year, our students also earned individual or team state titles in volleyball, swimming, track and field, cross-country, baseball, wrestling, swimming, golf, tennis and more.

In all, 53 percent of our middle and high school students are engaged in at least one extra-curricular activity.

Our schools also connect students with meaningful experiences beyond academics. Through community service efforts and an emphasis on kindness, empathy and social emotional learning in the classroom, we are helping all of our students become thriving citizens.

Our partners

We don't do this work alone. We have hundreds of business partners in the community that provide internships, apprenticeships and other opportunities for students. We are also grateful for the many volunteers who serve in our schools — last year alone our volunteers contributed more than 96,000 hours in our schools!

Our goal is to serve every student in Bend-La Pine Schools and to help build a brighter future for all of our students. With all of your support — we are making that a reality.
