HMOD island hannah shelton

What dangers do you see as a person stranded on this deserted island. Be specific and explain your answers.

i would be scared of not enough food to eat and not being able to make clean water, shelter, fire and other things . i would also be scared of getting an injury because i more than likely wouldn't know what to do about it and i wouldn't have antibiotics to treat it for infections.

  1. Ralph -fair (8) , 12 years old (10), arrogant (he doesn't even ask piggy what his real name is) (11)
  2. Jack- bossy , red hair(10) , freckles(10)
  3. Piggy- fat(9) , winy, asthma(9)
  4. Roger-stalker,
  5. Simon- peace keeper of the group(42)
  6. Eric and Eric- identical twins

Type the rules we created as a classroom from the board. This is something we will return to. In the meantime, pick the rule you find most important (from the ones we created) and explain why that rule, above all others is most important on this island.

  • -1. Travel in groups of 2's or more
  • -2. don't go out at night
  • -3. share resources
  • -4. clean up after yourself
  • -5. communicate effective
  • your job
  • -7. do not kill each other

I think that the most important rule is to not kill each other because there are jobs that need to be done and if one of the people who do that job gets killed the people that rely on him to do the job don't get what they need to survive, and this would cause total kayas. If this wasn't a rule than it would be all the younger more weak kids that would be killed because they are more valnrable

One of the themes of this novel is survival. Explain why the setting of this story adds to or contributes to the theme.

One of the themes in the novel is survival .the setting of the text is an island this contributes to the theme because they have to have food , shelter , and water in order to live and all the kids are very young and on top of they have to worry about not getting attacked by wild animals and finding a way for people to find them and get them off the island . They have know idea what is all on this island and if they were to get sick they wouldn't have medicine to help .

Ralph has said, “This is a good island” (Golding 35). Ralph’s pronouncement will prove ironic; it is definitely NOT a good island. This is an example of foreshadowing. What problems do readers already know about? Explain why these problems prove this is NOT a good island after all.

-there have already been a lot of little kids that have died on the island and the older kids on the island have kill some little kids for being to crazy . There are jobs on the island and if they don't do there job then they could miss opportunities or they could mess up every ones opportunity

Symbols are physical things that represent abstract ideas. The following are some of the symbols from the novel The Lord of the Flies.

  • 1 . Meat symbolizes the temptation the boys face on the island
  • 2. the island symbolizes isolation
  • 3. the smoke symbolizes them trying to get rescued
  • 4. Simon symbolizes the peace maker and goodness
  • 5. Piggies glasses symbolize survival
  • 6. painted faces symbolize anonymity
  • 7. piggy symbolizes civilization
  • 8. the conch symbolizes law and order
  • 9. platform symbolize democracy

Writing from Simon’s point of view, have him explain what the Beast is to the younger boys.

In Simon's point of view is that there is a beast but it is them they are the beast . The other little boys think that it is a ghost now because of what Simon describes it as . then there was a big discussion

Name at least two things the boys are doing or have given up that show how they are now operating on instinct and no longer trying to follow the rules of society. Explain your answers with information from the text.

Roger (108) " We want smoke and you are wasting your time . You roll rocks . Roger shouted we've got plenty of time " this shows they have given up on the fire and the smoke because they know they aren't going to be rescued and they aren't in a hurry to.

Jack(106) They want to make the castle place a fort and use it for shelter and stuff like that but there isn't shelter, food, or very much fresh water and Ralph doesn't like the place because it is a rotten place

Two rituals people are most familiar with are weddings and funerals. Pick an event (a wedding or a funeral). Make a list of at least 3 phrases people use at the event you picked. Using one of your phrases, explain why your phrase is helpful in the situation.

There are many things people say at weddings and funerals that the people say to make people feel safe even though they know what is coming next . One for wedding ( congratulations ) this helps the situation because this shows how happy you are for the people getting married . Another example of what they would say at a wedding is ( I do )this helps the situation to know that know matter what your spouse will stick with you no matter what . People say (i am so happy for you) at weddings this makes the situation better to know that people like and are happy for you .

Choose a character, either Ralph or Jack and explain the effect seeing the Beast has on the character you have chosen. Use textual information to support your answer.

Effects are thing that come after something causes something to happen .After seeing the Beast for the very first time had an effect on Jack to finally stand up against Ralph and the conch. Jack thinks that if Ralph isn't brave enough to face the beast then he isn't good enough to take care of all the kids on the island. Since nobody thought that Ralph shouldn't be chief Jack ran off into the forest with most of the older boys to start a new tribe. Jack and the older boys go hunting and find a pig to have a feast on an and to leave some of there kill for the beast so it might not want to harm any of the hunters . On page (127) "" Who thinks Ralph oughtn't to be chief?" He looked expectantly at the boys ranged round , who had frozen. Under the palms there was deadly silence .". This shows us that Jack changes and become more leader like after seeing the beast .

Retell in your own words what has happened to Simon. Use textual evidence to help you create a vivid paragraph.

Simon was going to tell all the boys that the beast isn't real it is inside all of them but he went at the wrong time on page (In the book lord of the flies page (154) " Simon's dead body moved out towards the open sea ." . This tells us that Simon died during the storm and the other boys killed him thinking that Simon was the beast and not thinking twice about it. on page (153) "At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock leaped on the beast , screaming, struck, bit, tore. There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws. " . This shows us that they murdered Simon not knowing it because of the storm and not thinking .

In life people create groups. These groups might be at school, in sports, in extracurricular activities, and through religious organizations. Explain what needs groups fill for people. Explain both the positive and negative aspects of being part of a group. You may relate this to our novel, or you may make it a person reflection of your own experience.

Some positive aspects to being in a group is that there are more people to do there jobs like watch something or not let people pass it would be easier if you had more people in a group . Some negative aspects to being in a group is that you would do things in a group that you wouldn't do by yourself like on page (153) they all kill Simon together not knowing that it was him but they wouldn't kill him right away if they were by them selves they would thought to ask who is it instead of killing him and not even thinking .Another positive aspect to a lot of people in a group on (The Lord of the Flies) all of the boys as a group had certain jobs like hunt or build shelter and this made things more easier then it would be to do all of that on your own.

Using this quote, take a stand. Pick a side and explain why your decision is best on this island here at the end of Chapter 11. Don’t forget to use textual evidence to support your answer. think it is better to have rules and agree so that way not everybody is scared of each other

I think it would be better to have "rule and agree" then it would to"kill and hunt" because once you have rules this makes a safe environment .They had rules like don't kill each other once they had this rule they were all in a safe environment and they didn't have to worry about being beat up by there leader or staying in there group because they are scared of there leader ." You don't know Roger. He's a terror .And the chief-they're both-terrors-" they are scared of there leaders and that is why they have to stay with them because they don't want to be on Rogers and Jacks bad side. With the kill and hunt theme it doesn't matter if a kid kills another kid like how Roger killed Piggy .

"They were black and iridescent green and without number; and in front of Simon , the Lord of the Flies hung on his stick and grinned." (page 138)

I chose this quote to represent the novel because this is when the title of the book is first mentioned in the text .

In my opinion this novel was interesting it had many different themes to describe it and it many different tones. I liked it better once Mrs. Lyda read it because she can explain what it happening if you don't understand it. The Adobe Spark blog is fun to do because you get to choose pictures and you get to write about what you learn and it helps you understand what the book is about . I like that you can do this at home too .
