"All of Me" - John Legend
In the book " The Catcher in the Rye" written by J. D. Salinger, Holden has many experiences with having feelings towards women, which is why it would be a great song for a playlist."All of Me" by John Legend for the playlist. Lyrics from the song that relate to Holden's experiences include "All of me loves all of you . . . All your perfect imperfections Give your all to me I'll give my all to you" (Line 9,11-13). This song relates to the book because Holden is always falling in love so easy with all types of different girls. From the book Holden even says "That's the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they're not much to look at, or even if they're sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They can drive you crazy. They really can." (Salinger 42). He can not get enough of women, he is almost addicted to them. Although, he can never find the right one for him, he is always in love with Jane Gallagher.
"Lonely" - Akon
In the book "The Catcher in the Rye" written by J. D. Salinger, Holden comes upon experiences of loneliness and thats why the song "Lonely" by Akon would be a great song for Holden's playlist. An example from the song that has a connection with the book is "I'm so... Lonely I'm Mr. Lonely I have nobody" (Line 16-19). This connects with the book because Holden is always feeling alone. One of many examples from the book of Holden feeling lonely is "New York's terrible when somebody laughs on the street very late at night. You can hear it for miles. It makes you feel so lonesome and depressed." (Salinger 34). The happiness around Holden makes him realize how sad and unhappy he truly is, which brings out the feelings of lonesome that are in him. He hates feeling alone which is why he is always on the search for a good relationship.
"Psycho (Pt. 2)" - Russ
In the book "The Catcher in the Rye" written by J. D. Salinger, Holden experiences feelings of love towards women he could not shake, and for that reason, the song "Psycho (Pt. 2)" by Russ would be a great choice towards the playlist. Holden starts to feel as if he is going crazy for a woman and in the song, the artist explains the same situation, "She got me going psycho She got me going down" (Line 1-2). This song relates to the book because Holden is always going crazy chasing after all these girls. In the book an example of Holden going crazy for a girl is "Jane Gallagher. Jesus ... I couldn't get her off my mind. I really couldn't." (Salinger 69). Holden just wants to be at peace and in love with a woman. However, he is falling in love with the wrong ones and they make him go crazy.
"Creep" - Radiohead
In the book "The Catcher in the Rye" written by J. D. Salinger, Holden experiences feelings of being different which is why the song "Creep" by Radiohead perfectly fits into the playlist. From the song, an example that shows the relation to the book is "I wish I was special . . . But I'm a creep I'm a weirdo . . . I want you to notice when I'm not around" (Line 7, 9-10, 7-18). Holden just wants to feel wanted and apart of something, but can not find the right people to make him feel this way. In the book an example of Holden feeling different in the book is "Most guys at Pencey just talked about having sexual intercourse with girls all the time – like Ackley, for instance – but old Stradlater really did it." (Salinger 35). Holden was feeling different because he has never had sex with anyone, but everyone at his school either has, or just say they have, Holden's feelings of being different make this song a perfect choice for the playlist.
"3005" - Childish Gambino
In the book "The Catcher in the Rye" written by J. D. Salinger, Holden is always experiencing strong feelings towards women which is why the song "3005" by Childish Gambino. An example of this is when Holden is explaining "You never even worried, with Jane . . . you were [always] happy. You really were." (Salinger 67). Holden loves Jane and he always feels happy with her and he just wants to be with her for a long time. In the song the artist explains the same feelings Holden experiences, for example "No matter what you say or what you do When I'm alone, I'd rather be with you . . . I'll be right by you're side till 3005" (Line 1-2, 4). He just wants to spend all the time he can with Jan Gallagher and he is always very content while around her. This song makes a perfect fit into Holden's playlist because the feelings the artist of the song has relates a lot to the same feelings Holden has in the book.
