Bedtime Stories Still life photography

In our still life unit, we learnt about different perspectives, angles, lighting. This website contains photos we took for our photography project on still life and perspective using our understanding of what we learnt.

Theme

Our theme that we took our photos based on was bedtime on a 5 years old's bedroom (a girl), we had multiple toys and some books.

Objects

Soft toys, toy car, picture book, pop-up book, toy phone, colour pencils, water bottle (looked like a toddlers bottle).

Lighting

Right and left

Background

Pink paper, handprints on the side

Situation (story)

Our situation, or story that I came up with that relates to our still life final photo is the following. Once upon a time, a girl moved to a new house. On entering her new bedroom, she saw that it was full of toys, storybooks, pens, pencils... and all of it was perfectly tidy. She was shocked by this sight of so many new objects there for her to play with, previously she would get sick of playing with the same old toys. The toys/books she loved the most were; the dolphin, the SpongeBob SquarePants mobile, the teddy bear, the toy car, the Peppa Big book, and the pop-up book. The car had fascinated her a lot since it would make realistic sounds. Soon, she had already started with her daily habits of messing around the house by painting and colouring; what she liked the most. It was a tiring day for her. Later, she started talking with her teddy about her day, and started felt sleepy. So that day she played all she liked, but went to bed without having tidied up.

oBJECT 1: cOLOR PENCILS

Left: Edited, Right: Original

This is an individual image of the colour pencils for our Still- Life Collage artwork. We chose to add colour pencils since colouring with colour pencils are a way little kids to show their imagination, using colours. Colour pencils related to our situation since the girl who is centred in our story is very imaginative and really likes to draw and colour. The colours used to edit this photo (mostly blue) give a feeling that it's during night.

OBJECT 2: Soft toys

Left: Right Lighting, Middle: Right Lighting, Right: Top Lighting

This is an individual image of the soft toys for our Still- Life Collage artwork. We chose to add soft toys to since children love to play with them, they're soft and fluffy, they can do whatever they want with soft toys. Soft toys relate to our situation since kids often share their feelings with stuffed toys and have conversations, and this happens in the story when the girl tells the teddy about her day. These photos weren't edited, each was taken with the light at difference angles. The background shows that the teddy is inside the bed sheet with her and she is talking to it about her day.

OBJECT 3: POP-UP BOOK

Left: Original, Right: Edited

This is an individual image of the pop-up book for our Still- Life Collage artwork. We chose to add the pop-up book because they're very interactive, full of colours and children enjoy reading them. The pop-up book doesn't exactly relate to our situation though it enhanced our set and made a good background. The colours used to edit this photo give a feeling as if the book is under a night lamp and the girl is reading it before sleeping.

OBJECT 4:TOY PHONE

Left: Original, Right: Edited

This is an individual image of the toy phone for our Still- Life Collage artwork. We chose to add the toy phone because they are fun and imaginative, and they are also very interactive (in terms of communication). Toy phones fascinate children a lot. Toy phones relate to our situation since, similar to the toy car, it interested the girl with it's realistic feature. She has seen her parents use there “real phones” so much, she got even more attracted. The colours used to edit this photo (mostly blue) give a feeling that it's during night, but since it is light blue, it shows the brightness in the girls personality.

Object 5: picture book

Left: Original, Right: Edited

This is an individual image of the picture book for our Still- Life Collage artwork. We chose to add the picture book because they're very visual and children enjoy looking at the pictures along with reading the text. The picture book doesn't really relate to our situation, but picture books are very commonly found in preschooler's rooms, therefore we added it to. The colours used to edit this photo (mostly blue) give a feeling that it's during night.
