Welcome Back, Harmony Austin!
AUGUST 14TH MARKED THE 1ST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR HPS AUSTIN!
From red carpet runways to mascot greetings, the best time of year is welcoming our students and staff back to another great school year! For some, they are embarking on their last year of school and thinking of their transition to college. For others, this is their first day of school ever! Here’s a look of some of our first day of school photos from across the Austin district.
HPS AUSTIN WELCOMES BACK TEACHERS AND STAFF!
TEACHERS WELCOME A NEW YEAR OF SHAPING THE FUTURE!
HPS Austin teachers and staff welcomed the start of a new school year in style with new colored staff shirts to symbolize the seven campuses across the Austin district at the 3rd annual Welcome Back Ceremony. The opening ceremony also included a stirring speech by world renowned author, educator, and motivational speaker, Dr. Steve Perry who inspired teachers to be bold and resilient in their teaching. Alongside their awards, HPS Austin also presented each campus principal with an Excellence in Leadership Award for the unwavering guidance they provide to each of their campuses.
THE STUDENT HAS BECOME THE TEACHER
As Jorge Perez walked through the halls of Harmony Science Academy - Pflugerville on August 14th, he took a look at the students in their newly ironed uniform shirts and thought to himself that he once walked in the same halls, sat in the same desks, and even listened to the same teachers. He wasn’t exactly there to reminisce on his old Harmony days but he couldn’t help remembering the good school days. Except this time around, he wasn’t there to listen and learn as a high schooler, instead he was there to inspire and teach as an instructor.
Mr. Perez, as his students call him, attended Harmony Austin since his 6th grade year at the Harmony campus on Rundberg Lane. He then continued to high school at Harmony Science Academy - Pflugerville where he graduated in 2012 and journeyed off to college in San Marcos, Texas. Now as a Texas State University graduate with a major in Spanish and a minor in Business, Perez has decided to come back to his old school and give back to his community. Perez is teaching middle school Spanish and is also coaching soccer and flag football. He feels that his students can relate to him because he was once truly walking in their shoes.
"I had a lot of great teachers in Harmony that helped me discover that education is where I want to be. My students have great potential and all they need is someone to tell them and show them that anything is possible. I want to be that someone."
Perez joins two other alumni faculty at the campus. Maria Martinez, class of 2011, and Jorge Canada, class of 2011, are currently working as teachers at the same school as Perez.

WE ARE HARMONY AUSTIN, WE ARE BLOOD
Our Harmony Austin teachers lent a helping arm in saving a local life this August! In between professional development workshops and preparing lesson plans for the upcoming school year, our Harmony Austin teachers found the time to go above and beyond for the local community by donating blood at the We Are Blood donation bus.
Home Visits Work!
Harmony’s Home Visit Program is one way our staff supports students and families through the educational process. Harmony teachers visit more than 7,000 homes each year to answer any questions families might have, often helping parents work through confusion about the college application process or provide student resources. We want to ensure our students know that they have the support of both their school and their family in their academic pursuits. Educators from all grades have made the commitment to build communication between themselves and families by visiting the homes of their students. Parents, we encourage you to contact your campus to request your home visit today!
