Cabra Matters Term 1 Week 2 2019

Principal's Report

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

Welcome to 2019 and a very special welcome to our Kindy and new students!

I hope that you enjoyed your holiday break, although it was very hot. The school has settled down very well with our classes beginning their hard work.

We had a great celebration on Tuesday morning to welcome the Year of the Pig. It was a wonderful display of Lion dancing, singing, percussion and movement. Our students received gold coins in red envelopes to wish them luck for the year and we had some noisy electronic fireworks. My special thanks to the Cabramatta High School Lion dance team, our students who sang, danced and played instruments and our terrific Community Language teachers for their hard work in organising and planning for the day, especially Mr Nguyen and Mr Li. I wish all families a happy Year of the Pig and I hope that you enjoy the celebrations in Cabramatta town this weekend. May good luck come your way!

A staff list can be found in the following pages. I would like to sincerely welcome our new permanent teachers.

Mrs Wright and Mrs Bourke, who have worked at our school as Specialist teachers are taking classroom roles in Year 1 and Stage 3. Ms Ma will take a Year 1 class and Ms Burton is teaching the IM class in our Special Education Unit. Ms Taylor will be sharing 1KT with Mrs King. Mrs Wade will share 2SW with Mrs Shandil. Mr K. Nguyen will share a Stage 3 class with Mrs Bourke. Mrs Butler will take KS on Fridays. Mrs Kleemann will work as a part time Counsellor. I know that our new staff will have rewarding and satisfying work at our school.

All parents and carers are cordially invited to our first Parents and Citizens meeting this Tuesday, February 12 at 9.00 am in the Community Room. This is our official forum for parents and carers to learn more about the school and its organisation and to give advice about matters which may affect the students. It is also a fundraising group which uses its money to make improvements to the school. This year, the P and C will contribute funds to the installation of a shade shelter over the play equipment and felt pin boards in all Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms. Free tea, coffee and snacks are provided. Iaeli, our P and C President, and I look forward to meeting you.

Last term, we introduced the wearing of House coloured Polo Shirts for Years 3-6 sport on a Friday. Our students looked that good, that many of the parents of our K-2 admired them and wanted to buy a shirt for their children. Following discussion with the P and C, we have decided to open up the wearing of the House polo shirt for all students on a Friday. If you would like your child or children to wear a shirt on Fridays, the shirts can purchased at the School Office at a discounted cost of only $10. We may have to rename Friday “Rainbow Day”.

You will have received a letter inviting you to information sessions to find out about your child’s class/grade or stage organisation. The sessions will last for about 40 minutes and are timetabled as follows:

Kindergarten - Wednesday, 13 February at 3.30 pm in Mrs Biala’s room

Year 1 - Tuesday, 12 February at 3.30 pm in Miss Mayo’s room

Year 2 – Tuesday, 12 February at 3.30 pm in Mrs Ashby’s room

Year 3 – Thursday, 14 February at 3.30 pm in Miss Turvey’s room

Year 4 – Tuesday 12 February at 3.30 pm in Mr Webster’s room

Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) – Monday 18 February at 3.30 pm in the Hall

Once again, welcome back to the school for another busy and engaging year of learning and special activities.

My best wishes,

Glen Stelzer
