NBMS G/T Newsletter September 2019 Edition

Welcome back to NBMS GT! We're looking forward to another fantastic year of discovery, exploration & growth to enhance our gifts and talents.

We have enjoyed seeing many of you at our NBMS G/T Parent nights and are looking forward to seeing more on Monday, October 14 @ 5:30 for our 8th grade parent night. If you missed your meeting, please see the Parent Night presentation link above to reference the official NBISD outline of G/T services for NBMS. This year we are providing more detailed attention to each grade level meeting to highlight areas of particular interest to G/T students and parents. Areas of interest are highlighted below. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Blake Haygood provides district G/T Instruction Services and provides an abundance of resources for parents and students in his differentiation newsletter. Please take the time to investigate all the valuable information and resources available. See link below.
6th graders have enjoyed playing bingo as a way of getting to know their fellow GT classmates!
7th graders have been playing ScatterGories, which is a Creative-Thinking/Category-based game that requires rapid fire, creative, brainstorming skills to score points by uniquely naming objects within a set of categories and a chosen letter of the alphabet. All actions are performed under time constraints. It's been fun and very loud in the library during these very competitive games! Lots of fun!
8th graders have been diving into their interests as we prepare for a year of Pursuing Our Passions! We recently took time to celebrate Palindrome Week with some activities! If you aren't familiar, a palindrome is a word, number or phrase that is spelled the same forwards and backwards. Some examples include mom, dad, racecar, and tacocat! Palindrome Week was from 9/11/19 to 9/19/19. We started with trying to identify palindromes. Then we read the book Palindromania! by Jon Agee. Then students were challenged with coming up with their own palindrome phrases and illustrating them! (Submitted by Mrs. Brown)
Please add the following important NBMS GT dates to your calendars.

The NBMS GT newsletter will be shared bi-monthly, so please let us know if you would like to add additional emails to the mailing list. Email addresses were generated from primary parent contact email information on file with the office. Please fill out the parent contact form below (if you haven't already done so at a parent meeting) to share your current or updated information. We're all looking forward to another great GT year here at NBMS!
