Stay Cool & Avoid Summer Class Burnout

While summer is traditionally a time to take a break from classes and homework, many students also find it’s a great time to pack in additional courses and take classes not normally available in the fall or spring. Below is a guide to help you navigate registration, schedules, and resources available over the summer!

Still need to sign-up for summer classes?

Eligible students sign up for Summer I Session in person through Tuesday, June 4. If you miss the deadline for Summer I, you still have time to get some classes in during Summer II. Registration for the Summer II session is open online through Sunday, July 7, and in person through Tuesday, July 9.

When is the Bell Library open during the summer?

While summer classes are shorter than fall or spring courses, they do not require less work. In fact, summer courses may require you to cram in more study sessions! Don’t worry, the Mary and Jeff Bell Library is here for you. The circulation desk, computer labs, and common spaces will be open during the following times:

• Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to midnight.

• Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

What are the summer dining hours?

It’s a good idea to have a game plan for your summer meals. Many University dining locations are closed or have shortened hours over the summer. See below for a full list of University dining hours:

When is Izzy’s Food Pantry open?

Don’t let hunger distract you! Izzy’s Food Pantry is here to make sure that no Islander student goes hungry. Pick up to 10 non-perishable food items a week free of charge. This summer, Izzy’s Food Pantry will be open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

When is the University Center open?

The University Center has limited hours over the summer. See below for times when you can stop by for a study session or just hang out.

Needed some help with summer classes?

The Center for Academic Student Achievement (CASA) has many tutoring services to help you out over the summer! CASA, located in the Glasscock building, offers tutoring, supplemental instruction, and writing review services in a welcoming environment. Here is a look at CASA’s summer schedule:

• Tutoring: Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Writing Center: Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What are Dugan Gym’s summer hours?

The Dugan Wellness Center will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with hours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Keep your fitness in check by popping by one of the many group fitness classes offered or go solo on the treadmill or free weights. Rec Sports also offers outdoor equipment rentals over the summer months. To make an equipment reservation for items like kayaks or surfboards, call 361.825.2454.

Don’t get a ticket!

Parking permits are still necessary during the summer months. You can order a parking permit on S.A.I.L and pick up your permit at the University Police Department or SandDollar$ Office (garage parking permits must be picked up at UPD). Click here for frequently asked questions regarding parking.
