MC MIDWINTER CHAMPIONSHIP
Each winter the MC fleet heads down to Lake Eustis, Florida for a three-regatta series called the Triple Crown. The series culminates with the MC Midwinter Championship, which regularly sees over 60 boats on the starting line. The racing is competitive and the camaraderie is special.
“This is my first regatta in the MC fleet. I come from E Scows. I’m liking this fleet! I’ve met a ton of people, and everyone’s been very welcoming to the class,” said Will Demand. Demand had a spectacular debut in the MC fleet this past weekend in a tough field of competitors at Midwinters, winning the first race of the regatta and earning a strong second place overall with his North Sails Z-Max. "Thinking back at why I was so consistent over the three days was a little luck, being conservative at starts and boat speed. My North Z-Max performed well in all conditions. It bladed out nicely with lots of twist in the breeze and powered up even better in the light stuff without me changing my rig settings."

The New Melges MC has been a true success. We re-designed the MC deck in 2017 and since that time we have sold nearly 50 new boats per season. The new open-air deck concept has people buzzing. More room for the sailor and crew. Increased storage space. Easy to work and access boards. Sail control lines that are easy to view and change out when necessary. All with an increase in stiffness, bringing you the most solid Melges MC ever. Track records show the new boats are fast too!
Every year, Melges Performance Sailboats teaches Zenda University, a two-day clinic and instructional regatta at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club in Florida. Immediately after we close the books on Zenda U, sailors get a chance to test out their new skillset at MC Midwinters.
It's a great way to get into the swing of things for the new season.
“2019 ZU was better than ever! And I’ve been to 11 or 12 of them now. I intend to keep going,” said Phil Ecklund.
“Zenda University was what I needed to get more competitive and comfortable on the race course. That two days has given me more confidence in my decision making abilities on the race course. After ZU, I am now racing with my home fleet instead of chasing them from a leg behind. Sailboat racing has just gotten a lot more fun,” – Sally Payne
