TEMPLE CITY PHOTO CONTEST

Thank you to those that submitted their photo entries for our first annual Temple City Photo Contest. We received a total of 44 amazing submittals and nearly 150 photographs! Winners will be recognized at the September 17th Council meeting.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

National Night out will be happening next Wednesday August 7th, 6:00 - 9:00 pm at Temple City Park. Please join our Public Safety team for live music, food, crafts, and demonstrations of law enforcement gadgets and gear. Please note that Golden West Street will be closed.

COUNCIL MEETING

At the August 6th meeting, City Council will consider the following items: Chamber of Commerce quarterly update, Chamber of Commerce service and lease agreements, and a potential parcel tax measure.

YOUTH COMMITTEE RECRUITMENT

Interviews for the 2019 Youth Committee members concluded last week. The interview panel interviewed 16 applicants and selected seven for appointment. These new members will be confirmed by Council during their August 20 meeting. Committee members will then attend a meeting protocol training later this month; followed by visits to the field offices of Senator Rubio and Assemblymember Chau to learn how different levels of government work together for the benefit of the communities they serve.

Youth Committee’s first meeting will be in October. Meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

The Planning Commission meeting for August 13, 2019 has been canceled. For questions, please call the Planning Division at (626) 656-7316.

ROSEMEAD BOULEVARD RESURFACING

The City has contracted with Pavement Coatings Co. to resurface Rosemead Boulevard from the northern to southern city limits. This project, funded by SB 1 transportation funds, will extend the life of the pavement surface by sealing cracks and applying a slurry seal coating over the existing pavement.

The phases of work and approximate schedule are provided below. The schedule is subject to change based on weather and field conditions.

Street preparation: Cleaning, weed spraying, crack sealing, and striping removal through August 8. Striping removal will occur between 9:00 PM on Sunday, August 4 and 5:00 AM on Monday, August 5.

Slurry seal application at Rosemead Boulevard and Las Tunas Drive: 9:00 PM on August 11 (Sunday night) through 5:00 AM August 12 (Monday morning). The intersection will be closed to all traffic during this time.

Slurry seal application in all other areas along Rosemead Boulevard: To occur on August 11 through August 16 between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. On street parking will be unavailable during these hours and driveway access may be blocked. Only one traffic lane will be open in each direction during these hours. Expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.

Lane striping: Scheduled for August 19 through August 21.

SUMMER CONCERTS IN THE PARK

The City's Concerts in the Park series continues Wednesday, August 7 at Temple City Park with Sgt. Peppers (Beatles) taking the stage! Our exciting lineup of concerts and fun continues each Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. through August 21. The remaining concert schedule is as follows:

August 14: DSB (Journey Tribute Band)

August 21: Hot August Nights (Neil Diamond Tribute)

Family Fun Night: Fly A Kite!

In celebration of Parks and Recreation Month: On July 9, over 200 attendees enjoyed kite flying, hot dogs, and traditional family picnic games.

Neon Night Walk

In celebration of Parks and Recreation Month: On July 26, over 500 attendees enjoyed in a leisurely night stroll around Live Oak Park’s walking path. Participants were treated to music, food, face painting, glow sticks, and black light stations.

Bark at the Park!

In celebration of Parks and Recreation Month: On July 29, over 150 attendees and their dogs participated in a doggie fashion show, enjoyed agility and water play areas, and visited dog-related vendor booths.
