Overview

This is a story that follows Beatrice prior, who lives with her father, mother and brother Caleb. That takes place in a future society that is divided into five major factions. Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Amity and candor. Although they were born abnegation they have to take a test which helps them decide which faction they want to be in. The people with no faction are called factionless ( which are pretty much homeless people). When Beatrice takes the test she finds out that she doesn't just belong to one faction but three. This is extremely rare and dangerous for the community. Society calls this Divergent. Tris then decides to go with dauntless. They make her do many risky things before they can become apart of that faction. Tris continuing to stand out, people begin to not care for her. Even some of er closest friends try to kill her. Four is Tris's trainer and soon becomes her love interest. During initiation tris takes they serum and makes her envision her family, which the way she reacts to these hallucinations makes four see that she is divergent. Toward the end of the book tris wakes to find that the dauntless group is preparing for battle in a sleepwalking state of mind. The group then tries to kill a certain faction, but tris, four, caleb, her mother and her father help stop the bad guys.

I like

I really like the idea of having different factions, and the whole time tris was facing her fears

Veronica Roth has a lot of run on sentences, but a lot of the time it makes it easier to read the main characters thoughts.

I don´t Like

How similar it was to the hunger games.

Uses too much ¨I¨ and ¨I am¨

Roth uses symbolism

She uses symbolism in the clothes, the houses, the tattoos, throughout the whole story. Tris´s three birds tattoo represents her identity, because she is afraid to go back to the life she once had and what her parents think of her.
