Spotlight Series: Zoila Rivas December Employee of the month

Zoila Rivas is the lead housekeeper of Facilities Management at the Carolina Union and has been selected as our December employee of the month! As part of our efforts to highlight the hard work of our student and staff employees, we are doing a spotlight series every month.

Zoila has been with the Carolina Union for 16 years and has been working on facilities staff since 2000. Zoila and her team are responsible for the daily operations to keep everyone safe and the building secure, which makes thriving student life possible at the Carolina Union. One of her favorite parts of the job is being able to get out of the office and moving throughout the building. “For routine, for everyday, this is the part I like is I go everywhere not stay in just the one place,” Zoila said.

When she’s not at work, Zoila enjoys shopping, listening to country music, and watching a movie featuring her favorite actor, Sylvester Stallone. Most of all, she loves spending time with her family. She has four children – two at college, one in high school and one in middle school. She said she was looking forward to having them all home for the holiday. “The best part is my kids they come home for, you know, for days in college that have a break for stay together,” Zoila said. “That’s the plan for Thanksgiving Day.”

Family is an important part of her life, and she is also an important part of the Carolina Union family. Many great memories have been made during Zoila's time at the Carolina Union, including a celebration for her youngest son. “My favorite memory is for 2005 for Megan [Johnson] and the other people in the Union organized my baby shower for my little boy – that’s the best memory I have,” Zoila said. “So sweet for everybody to meet with me and enjoy the time.”

We recognize and appreciate all that you do for the Carolina Union. Thank you, Zoila!
