The pools only appear in the rainy season from January to June, although the best time to visit Lençois park in optimal conditions is between June and September. The park lagoons are still full of water and weather conditions are very pleasant. It is when the desert becomes an oasis and blooms into life. The lagoons, which disappear in the dry season, are populated by fish which become a source of food for migratory birds. Close to the sea it is possible to view various species of sea turtles, which use the desert as a spawning ground. The headquarters of the National Park is in the small village of Atins, almost entirely inhabited by people who live by fishing in the lagoons.
