Desert Willow Elementary Learning for life and loving to learn January 13, 2021

We have welcomed many new and returning Roadrunners to Desert Willow over the last week. Part of what makes our school so special is the community - even when we can't come together in ways that we typically would. I have seen students showing new students around campus, inviting them to play at recess, and extending a warm welcome. It can be hard to be new - especially in the middle of the school year. I am grateful to the students, families, and staff members who have tried to help everyone feel like a valued member of our school family.

Roadrunners are Respectful, Responsible, & Kind

This month, our school wide theme is empathy. We’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect the same and different feelings, and show compassion. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

You can extend this idea at home by talking about your own feelings and modeling empathy for others.
