What is kindness? It is common to mistake being kind with being nice. What is the difference between the two? We are nice when we are polite and do things to please others. Kindness comes from a place of generosity; it is the "you didn't have to, but you did it anyway" sort of service. It is the best kind, and it makes one's heart melt.
Here at Family Giving Tree, we believe in kindness. We believe in the power it has to make an impact on someone else's life. Many of our staff members have experienced this firsthand. Can you think of a time when someone was kind to you? How did that make you feel? It might have been a stranger who unexpectedly waved hello, and their smile was contagious. Or perhaps someone surprised you with something that made your heart jump. Kindness makes us smile and is often unexpected. It takes us by surprise and comes at a time when we feel most vulnerable or undeserving. Not only are we capable of experiencing kindness, but we also have what it takes to spread kindness to those around us. The best news is that kindness is contagious. That is why our mission here at Family Giving Tree is to spread joy to those near us facing hardships. It is challenging to experience delight or laughter in the difficulties, but kindness from our community and all of the sweet surprises can make a person's day so much brighter.
Sunday, February 14th through the 20th is Random Act of Kindness Week. This week, we'd like to encourage you to write a list of random acts of service that you can do each day through the week. Big or small, you might be surprised to see what your act of kindness can do.
