Connections at St. George's by the river

Join Connections and become a vital and integral part of our church family! This social group effectively brings this church community together, creating an atmosphere of congeniality and warmth that invites you into lasting friendships with church members. This faith-based group has a total of about 65 parishioners, either single or married of all ages, who gain fellowship through monthly meetings at members’ homes, restaurants or on a variety of outings; members are divided up into 5 groups of about 13 people in each. Everyone participates and everyone has a great time cementing old friendships and embarking on new ones. For many members, Connections meets many needs, including those of support, a social life and camaraderie.

The Connections year begins with “The Twelfth Night Supper and Revels”, which will be held this year in January. Everyone dines with their new groups, assigns their leaders and organizes their first meeting. This catered heavy hors d’oeuvres and dessert holiday party continues to be a fun and festive way to celebrate the Wise Men following a star to worship the Christ Child; members share last year’s group experiences, enjoy King Cake, elect their King and Queen of the evening and then sing rousing renditions of traditional Epiphany carols.

Another yearly event is the Kentucky Derby Day Party! Save the date of May 7th, 2016 for this heart-thomping, hoof-stomping good time with your Connections friends. We do some friendly betting and get wildly excited about the race! We quench our thirst with frosty mint juleps, and then have a delicious Southern repast. A new addition to the event ...please come to hear a live Dixie Land Band.

Some Connections events have evolved into parish-wide events to encourage cohesion within the church. These include: The Annual Beach Bash will be scheduled in September with a raindate of September , continues to attract families in a casual and fun atmosphere at the Sea Bright Beach. Bring your beach chairs, your families, your picnics and a full measure of enthusiasm for fun and games at the beach including tug o’ war and water balloon tosses. Our incredible and enthusiastic youth group runs the games! One of these is the “Family Christmas Social” to be held on a Sunday in December (TBA) at the Navesink Country Club. There is no greater way to celebrate Christmas than to enjoy a scrumptious brunch buffet with your friends and family of St. George’s. Carol along with your very talented parishioners, enjoy an inspirational handbell concert and find out what the true meaning of Christmas is! Skating for all ages follows afterwards!
