School Lunches - changes

Due to the amount of administration that is involved in school lunches we have had to make changes to the lunch arrangements

If your child has a packed lunch every day or a school dinner every day that needs to be the same for the whole half-term. Or if they have a mixed lunch option the arrangement must be the same for the whole half-term. For instance if they have packed lunch on an Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and a school dinner on a Thursday and Friday that arrangement will have to be the same for the whole half-term.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Early Birds gets a breakfast boost from Kellogg's!

To celebrate 20 years of supporting school breakfast clubs, Kellogg’s has awarded West Hill £1,000 to enhance Early Birds and help give children breakfast in the morning.

Therefore, from January we will be providing a breakfast of either toast or cereal to our children who attend Early Birds at no extra cost until this generous donation from Kelloggs runs out. Early Birds costs £2 daily and places must be booked a week in advance so that we can make sure we have enough breakfasts for every child.

We have a maximum of 20 places every day and have 10 spare places in Early Birds, starting in January. If you would like your child to attend you can register your child now.

To register you must complete an application form (available at the school office) and payment must be received before your child starts Early Birds.

If you have a debt with Early Birds your child cannot attend until this has been cleared.

We are so grateful to Kelloggs for providing us with this money as it enables us to provide breakfast to our Early Birds children for the first time in many years.

Kate Prince, Corporate Social Responsibility manager, at Kellogg’s, said “We’re proud to have spent 20 years supporting so many schools across the UK. We believe all children should have the opportunity to start the day with breakfast, and we know that equipment and resources are just as important to clubs as the food itself.”

Kellogg’s has supported 3,000 school breakfast clubs with funds, food and training over the last 20 years – that’s 70 million bowls of cereal to children all over the UK since 1998.

London Book Project

We were so excited to receive a Book Hut this half term from the London Book Project.

Children receive a token to spend on a free book in the bookshop. This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to experience browsing and selecting their own book amongst those on display and we are so grateful for the London Book Project for choosing West Hill Primary School as one of their schools.

When the Book Hut moves on we would love to create our very own Book Hut to be permanently at West Hill. If you would like to support us in this please look at our Sponsor Us page on our website for how to donate and for a link to our Amazon wishlist which includes books that can be purchased on behalf of the school. Click on the button below.

Punctuality

Please remember that we now have a 'soft start' to the school day. Children can come into the classroom from 8.45am and registration is at 8.50am. Parents and carers should not come into the school but say goodbye to their children in the playground.

If children are late please can parents bring their child into the office and use the electronic registry system to explain the reason for their lateness.

Learning starts at 8.50 and if children are regularly late this will have a negative impact on their learning.

If children are regularly late parents will receive letter from the school inviting them to come to a meeting to dicsuss how we can best support the family to make sure their child starts school on time.

Attendance

Children receive rewards certificates, tea parties and badges for attending school for 100% of each half term.

We do recognise that sometime children are poorly and cannot attend school but that their attendance should be as close to 100% as possible. If it drops below 95% they will receive a letter from the school and possibly an invitation for the parent to attend a meeting to discuss how we can best support the family to make sure your child attends school more frequently.

Congratulations to Year 3 Chagall Class who achieved an overall attendance of 98% last half term.

Welcome

We would like to welcome Suad Mohamed from Wandsworth LA to West Hill. Ms Mohamed works in many schools across the borough as the ethnic minority achievement officer. Ms Mohamed is going to be working at West Hill until February 2020 supporting children with their learning and helping them to make sure they reach their full potential. We are very excited to welcome her to our teaching team at West Hill.
