Introduction: In 1838 to 1839 as part of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy the president wanted to have that land for crops so Andrew Jackson knew people lived there so he removed the Cherokees.They were sent to the south eastern United States.A lot of Cherokees died.This was a terrible time of history.
Start of trail of tears: The trail of tears started with the Americans wanting the land that the Cherokee lived in. The Americans solider forced them to leave.The some Cherokees got killed by the soldiers because they refused. They had horses to travel and the horses got tired.Then they had a to walk.
The cherokees had little food for the travel.Also it was a long journey so a lot of people died of hunger.It was a long time to get back. Most of the time they walked so there were broken bones, diseases,death. They walked about 2,200 miles.
Cherokees: The Cherokee got kicked off of there land because the government wanted the land to grow crops on that land.They wanted new crops to eat because that is the good place to grow them. They lived in a little village for a long time to survive. They got killed now some are gone so there old houses got burned down.Some died really early.
Conclusion : They extra had to go to jail camp.The result of that was a lot of people died, they got there land but they kinda felt bad so about 10% of them got out of jail alive.Some had broken legs from walking 2,200 miles for the walk to jail.It took them about a year.Cherokee had to start adopting the ways of white people who had started to colonize their land, in order to keep their land.
