Field Trip Season Begins Jason Lee Elementary visits Oxbow Regional Park

The Estuary Partnership teamed up with Jason Lee Elementary School to kick off the 2019 – 2020 field trip season on September 25! Two 4th grade classes had the exciting opportunity to explore Oxbow Park with our environmental educators.

Sam shows students a banana slug.

Students used their newly learned scientific skills to find lots of different mushrooms on the trail (as well as snails and slugs and spiders – oh my!).

So many fungi to be found!

Our nature walk led us to the Sandy River where we tested our knowledge of macroinvertebrates and what they tell us about our rivers and streams.

Learning about different species of macroinvertebrates.
Searching the Sandy River for "macros."

“I love this place! I want to come back and bring my mom.” - Jason Lee 4th grader

The type and quantity of macroinvertebrates helps us understand how healthy a stream is.

Big thanks to Wells Fargo and Deacon Charitable Foundation for funding our program with Jason Lee!
