2018 Board of Directors Election Candidate Biographies

William F. “Bill” Rooks

Bill has served on the Grand Valley Power board of Directors for 14 years. He has served in the capacities of Secretary-Treasure, Vice President, and President. He has also been a hospice volunteer, a member of the Tri-river Extension advisory committee, and numerous boards and committees related to Angus cattle sales. Bill is self employed raising register Angus cattle and farming to raise forage for the herd needs. Bill’s formal education includes a B.S. degree from Colorado State University and a M.A. from Adams State College.

Bill’s goal on the board is for GVP to deliver reliable and affordable electric power to all GVP’s member owners.

Dennis Haberkorn

Dennis is a Colorado native and has lived in the Grand Valley for 42 years. He earned a BFA from the University of Colorado, an MA from the University of Northern Colorado and is a retired small business owner. Dennis and his wife, Joan, have three children and five grandchildren. He is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. His community involvement includes; Habitat for Humanity, the Art Center Board, the District 51 School Board, church parish and finance councils, and has for 22 years implemented Grand Valley Outreach’s Empty Bowls annual fundraiser. Dennis is completing his seventh term on Grand Valley Power’s Board of Directors. He has earned his Credentialed Cooperative Director, Board Leadership and Director Gold Program certificates. He served seven years as a Board representative on Western United Electric’s purchasing cooperative (two as president), chairman of Grand Valley Power’s new headquarters building committee (completing the project under budget) and served two appointments as Grand Valley Power Board president.

When asked why he would like to be re-elected to the Grand Valley Power board of directors he said several reasons came to mind. First, he is providing 18 years of electric co-op education and experience continuity for the board through his knowledge of energy regulations, renewable energy applications and power cost issues. Second, he is committed to ensuring affordable and reliable electricity to all GVP members. Most importantly, he is strongly dedicated to serving as a Grand Valley Power director and doing the best job possible for all of Grand Valley Power’s members.

Jesse Mease

Jesse is a Colorado native, born and raised in the lower Grand Valley. He resides in Loma, with his wife of 18 years, Laci, they have three kids: Izzy (16), Orrin (12), and Rolland (9). They homeschool their kids, but are actively involved in FMHS, FMS, FFA, 4H, wrestling, football, and much more. Jesse is serving as a Deacon at Loma Community Church. He is also the Mesa County 4H Swine Superintendent. He serves on the Advisory Council for the Fruita Monument High School Future Farmers of America Organization, and is a member of the Fruita FFA Alumni Board. Jesse also is a board member of the City of Fruita Downtown Development Board.

The Mease family own and operate Monument Powder Coating, which they opened in 2003. It is a growing business, and Jesse has created a place for young men to work, grow, learn, and be mentored. Through the years, he has seen many young men grow up and change for the better working for MPC, and it has helped them all prepare to go into their own futures.

The Mease family runs a pig farm from their home in Loma. It has grown to over 25 sows, with which they farrow winter and summer litters. With Red Mesa Pork and Genetics, they raise custom whole finished hogs, sell weaner hogs, and raise top quality show pigs. They sell show pigs to families reaching from Utah, Idaho, to New Mexico, and all over the state of Colorado.
