Monkton Park Newsletter Friday 29th March 2019

Class Structure 19/20

We have been working hard alongside governors to create a long term class structure which will be in place from 2019/20. We are currently have the largest number on roll that we have ever had and this will increase further from September (38 children in most year groups, including Y6).

From 19/20 the classes will be as follows: YR, YR/Y1, Y1/Y2 (2 classes), Y3/Y4 (2 classes), Y4/Y5, Y5/Y6 (2 classes)

A consistent classing structure will support long term curriculum planning for the children and will provide a far more predictable pathway for pupils as they progress through the school. It will also enable teachers to work together more easily so that they can plan the very best lessons for their pupils.

Netball - Level 2 Games

The netball tournament took place on Friday 22nd March, it was a lively event. The tournament started with 3 pools with 5 teams in each one. Each team played 4 matches but only two would make it to the final. We played Stanton St Quinton, Kings Lodge, St Peters and St Marys. Our match against Stanton ended with us winning 6-0, with Gabriel, Alexa and Camille scoring the goals. Our next opponents were St Marys where we were winners again with a score of 6-3. Libby and Megan were our scorers this time. Our third match was against St Peters but would we keep our winning streak? Well we did, winning 5-1 with Alexa, Megan and Gruff finding the goal. Our final match was against Kings Lodge which we won again with a score of 2-0. Maria and Camille were the goal scorers. Unfortunately, we didn’t reach the final due to goal difference. We all had a fantastic time representing the school. Thank you Mrs Quarrell for coaching us during the matches.

Mrs Quarrell's Team .

We really enjoyed the netball, we had a great day. We won 3-0 against Kington Langley. We lost the other games but Mrs Hamilton was very proud of us. It was really fun and we got to play in all of the different positions. This was our first time playing and we were really nervous, especially as the other teams were all year 6, but we tried our best. We really want to play again soon.

Chippenham School's Netball and Football Tournament.

The school football and netball teams were in action on Saturday at the Sheldon Primary Schools’ Tournament and both teams had a fantastic morning.

The football competition proved to be the closest fought for a number of years, with only a few points separating the top 5 teams. Monkton Park came 5th and Mr Slee was incredibly proud of the team and their positive attitude throughout.

Our netball team had to re-group following their disappointment at Friday’s netball festival when they lost out on a place in the final on goal difference. However, they certainly rose to the challenge, played brilliantly and were unbeaten in all 7 matches. Well done and congratulations to everyone involved.
