Collegium follows a 6-day rotating schedule for all students. This type of schedule reduces the effects of scheduling changes on classes that do not meet daily.

For example, instead of your child's schedule going from Monday to Friday, he/she will have a schedule for each of the following: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, and Day 6. The “Days” are published here in our weekly Newsletter and on the homepage of our website.

Collegium and West Whiteland Police Department

Collegium is fortunate to continue our long-lasting and highly beneficial relationship with the West Whiteland Police Department (WWPD). While faculty and staff are accustomed to WWPD officers and vehicles on campus, the visual of a police presence on school grounds can be concerning to our families.

Through dedicated and publicized exercises such as our October 2015 Active Shooter Drill or our October 2016 Mock Crash Event, WWPD seeks every opportunity to cultivate the trust of the Collegium Community. Collegium allows WWPD to use our campus to enhance officer training during during non-school hours.

Whether it's officers greeting our students or parking their vehicles in our parking lots, their presence and dedication to learn building and campus layouts only enhances their familiarity with our needs and procedures. If you see WWPD on campus, please understand it is not indicative of an issue. Instead, we ask our parents/guardians and students to understand that we welcome WWPD to Collegium and will continue to foster our shared partnership in ensuring student safety.

Science Fair Committee Members Needed

Calling all parents/guardians and CCS faculty/staff! We are in need of members for our Science Fair Committee.

The committee includes parents and CCS staff, and our meetings take place at 5:00pm in the Conference Room of the 435 Building. We meet approximately every 3 weeks (schedule below) to discuss ideas and plan this year's Science Fair events. Even though we have two separate events - a 1st-12th grade Science Fair in mid-January and a Kindergarten Science Fair a few weeks later - we all meet and work together as one group.

Principals' Coffee Chats Return

Last year, Collegium Principals welcomed parents/guardians to their building-specific Coffee Chats. Coffee Chats offer parents/guardians the opportunity to join our Principals for coffee and informal conversation covering the school, events, and academic programming. We are happy to announce that the Principals' Coffee Chats are returning!

Hispanic Heritage Festival for All CCS Families

The Diversity Committee at our 500 Building, along with the 500 Building's Spanish Department, is hosting our 1st Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival to honor National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th through October 15th).

Our event is scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd, from 10:00am until 2:00pm at the 500 Building Field. If the weather does not cooperate, we'll move the festivities into the 500 Building Gym.

The Festival is open to all CCS families and members of the community, so please invite your friends and neighbors. There will be vendors, food trucks, live performances, community resource tables, and more! The event is free; however, families are responsible for any purchase from the vendors and food trucks.

From Our 515 Building

515 Outdoor Rec Night: On Friday, September 15th from 6:00-8:00pm, the 515 Building will host an Outdoor Rec Night for students in grades 7 and 8. Students can play basketball, Wiffle ball, or various lawn games all while hanging out with their friends and teachers. The $5.00 admission fee covers the cost of beverages and ice cream. Beginning Monday, September 11th, permission slips will be available from homeroom teachers. Questions? Please Mr. Ford.

NJHS Mesh Backpack and Tote Sales: The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is selling backpacks and tote bags for the students in the 515 Building. Mesh backpacks and totes can be worn throughout the school day and are an excellent way to help students stay organized. All proceeds go toward 2017-2018 NJHS activities. Blue mesh backpacks are $10.00 and white totes (with blue accents) are only $8.00. Order forms were distributed in homerooms and can be given to Mr. Kelley in the 515 Building. Dual Enrollment Night

Attention all parents/guardians of our high school students! Our 535 Building will host a Dual Enrollment Night on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in the 535 Library from 7:00pm until 9:00pm.

The Dual Enrollment Program is a partnership program with Delaware County Community College, allowing students to take college courses for credit while still in high school. If you are interested in attending this event, please RSVP below.

Elementary Intramural Programs

Collegium's elementary intramural programs offer a variety of opportunities for students in kindergarten through sixth grade to participate in activities designed to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Our programs focus on athletic fundamentals and social interactions with an emphasis on sportsmanship. Programs this year will consist of a variety of activities including running, soccer, Cougar F.I.T. Club, basketball, flag football, and kickball.

Programs are scheduled after school from 4:15pm until 5:30pm. The number of sessions will vary depending upon the program. Registration is completed by submitting the required registration form and fee by the designated due date. Registration form links are shared in the weekly Newsletter and are posted on the CCS Athletics webpage a few weeks prior to the start of each program.

Running intramurals will begin in October. This program is for students with a passion for running as well as first time runners. Students registered in the running program will learn appropriate techniques for running. Coaches will motivate students to set goals, accomplish their goals, and set new ones. In addition there will be meaningful lessons centered around team building, developing relationships, and making new friends.

Collegium Employee Spotlight

This Newsletter section highlights one Collegium employee each week and allows families and students to get to know them even more. Now, when you see featured employees on campus, you'll have a better chance of being able to greet them by name and strike up conversations!

Help Wanted at CCS

Custodian - Full-time, school year position. Duties include sweeping, mopping, empty trash, cafeteria set-up, and other duties as assigned.

Food Service Positions - Part-time, approximately 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday on days when school is open.

500 Book Fair Volunteers Needed

It's Book Fair time in the 500 Building!

We are looking for parent volunteers for students in grades 5-8 for October 9th through 17th. The book fair hours will be from 8:00am until 3:00pm. You can sign up for as many one hour time slots that you want. Please sign up using the Signup Genius link below. All volunteers must have clearances and related information is posted on the Volunteering page of our website.

Back to School Nights

Please plan to attend your child’s Back to School Night. Attending is a great way for you to learn more about your child’s teacher and the education planned for this school year.

  • 500 Building: Tuesday, September 12th, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Grades K and 1: Wednesday, September 13th, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Grades 2-4: Thursday, September 14th, 6:00pm - 8:00pm

During your child's Back to School Night, please report to your child's building and you will be greeted and provided with additional instructions. Please plan to stay for the entire time. These events are for parents/guardians only.

The Spanish Honor Society will be selling fresh pretzels, cold soft drinks, baked goods, and sponsoring a raffle! Be sure to bring a few dollars to support our students!

Also, our National Honor Society will be collecting school supply donations to benefit The Community Youth and Women's Alliance of Coatesville.

From the CCS Home and School Association (HSA)

Serving in a capacity similar to a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) or Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), our HSA owes its success to the efforts of our many parent, teacher, and staff volunteers!

What is the HSA?

The HSA promotes communication, cooperation, understanding, and active participation between parents/guardians and Collegium. We are responsible for planning fundraisers and events throughout the year. The funds that we raise help support many programs at Collegium including Uniform Scholarships, Teacher and Principal Funds, Field Trip Scholarships, and many others.

KidStuff Coupon Books

KidStuff Coupon Book sales continue through Friday, September 15th. All families in grades K-6 should have received a book on Tuesday, September 5th.

If you are not purchasing the book, please return it to your child's homeroom teacher ASAP. If you are purchasing the book, please be sure that your order form and money is returned before September 15th.

If your children are in grades 7-12 and you are interested in purchasing Kidstuff books, send your payment of $25.00/book to school with your child marked ATTN: HSA, KIDSTUFF. Please include your child's name, building number, and homeroom teacher. The HSA will process your order.

Volunteer Opportunities

KidStuff Book Return Shipment: We will be gathering unsold books, sorting, taking inventory, and packing books for return shipment. Volunteers are needed on Saturday, September 16th from 10:00am until 2:00pm. Clearances are not required. To sign up, access the link below.

School Stores: Sign up forms will be posted this week on the HSA Facebook Page.

Social Media Chair: Responsible for developing content and administering our HSA Facebook Page. If you have an interest, please email the HSA Officers directly.

Cougar Challenge

What's the Cougar Challenge? It's our walk/exercise-a-thon to raise money for the HSA. The HSA provides financial support to Collegium by sponsoring student-oriented projects, hosting special events for families, providing additional funds for classroom materials, and offering scholarships for uniforms and field trips.

Why walking and exercising? To acknowledge the walking required by volunteers and Collegium founders to secure the 1,000+ signatures from community members in support of initially opening Collegium.

Last year, our families raised over $20,000 and we want to exceed that amount for 2017-2018. This year’s event will be held Friday, September 29th and if each CCS family solicits just $100 in donations, we will far exceed our goal. Additional information is provided below.

HSA General Meeting

Meetings will be held the first Tuesday of the month in the Conference Room of the 435 Building. Times will alternate between 4:30pm and 6:30pm from month to month. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:30pm.

This section of our Newsletter lists information from local groups and upcoming community activities Collegium families may want to explore. Our Community Opportunities section will not include information about non-CCS fundraisers or information from for-profit companies.

Girl Scouts Information Session

Girls scouts will be holding a girl scout information night Monday, September 18, 2017 from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the 535 Cafeteria. Girls in grades K-12 and their parents are welcome to attend. Questions? Email Jenna Robertson.
