Blizzards: A severe snowstorm characterized by strong sustained winds of at least 35 MPH. There is a difference between blizzards and snowstorms, the difference is the speed that the wind is going. Blizzard mainly occur after snowfall and the wind speed increases. Blizzards can last for days at a time. Blizzard have lasted up to 18 days at a time. The biggest blizzard that has happened occurred in 1888 in Massachusetts. Four hundred people died. it is the biggest death toll out of all winter storms. The number one place that blizzards usually occurs on the East coast of the united states. blizzards are usually caused by winds spilling over the edges of ice plateaus. While usually snow accompanies blizzards that is not always the case. They usually bring whiteout conditions in areas where there is unusual or rarely snow.
