"We can only experience the victories that God has promised us when we are prepared to face the truth."
August 2021 has been an eventful month. The fluctuations in the level of Covid-19 infections, and deaths and recoveries were major concerns, with the political shenanigans being on high gear leading to the resignation of the 8 th Prime Minister, culminating with the appointment of our 9 th Prime Minister before the month ended. All these have sadly overshadowed our Independence Day Celebration on the 31 st of August.
As l reflected on all these happenings, I was reminded of Jeremiah 12:5:
“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, In which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?”
Jeremiah reminded us of three very important points in exercising our faith and serving in these difficult times:
- The Christian life and ministry is tough. It is not a “stroll” in the park but a “strenuous run”.
- The Christian life and ministry is going to get tougher, as we prepare ourselves to run “with horses” in the “floodplains” of life.
- The Christian life is one of overcoming and being victorious in the face of adversity.
We can only experience the victories that God has promised us when we are prepared to face the truth. One cannot expect to experience the power of God while living in a make-believe world and a lie.
God has done His hardest part. He gave His Son whom He loved dearly for the sake of our salvation. He has done the hardest thing for us, and every other thing will be as nothing in comparison. Roman 8:32 declares, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”
Paul followed up that though with the following Scriptures in verses 34-39:
“Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? …….Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Yes, this season too will pass but we will have victory today!
