Celarain Lighthouse at Punta Sur Eco Beach, Cozumel Story and Photography by Robert Neff

November 27, 2017. On Day 5 of the 7 Day Western Caribbean Cruise with Royal Caribbean onboard the Brilliance of the Seas, I headed for Punta Sur Eco Beach Park to explore Ceralain Lighhouse. This was the first of several unique experiences that included a visit to the Columbia Lagoon and a walk along the lighthouse's beach.

The lighthouse is open and offers 360 degree views of the island and the water. The steps are narrow and getting out onto the walkway requires bending the body to make it through the half door.

In the staircase looking up at the light.

Looking back down the staircase.

Windows offer some light.

Railings do help.

The 360 views are worth the climb to the top of the lighthouse.

The road separates the Columbia Lagoon from the Caribbean. The observation tower for the eco Beach Park is just beyond where the road disappears in the mangroves.

Columbia Lagoon has flamingos, egrets, red egrets and much more.

Mayan ruins can be seen near the lighthouse.

The water is spectacular!

Punta Sur Beach and Clubhouse is about a 20 minute drive.

Take a moment to enjoy the white powder sand.

There was also a museum, shops, and there was a person from the bird rescue with two macaws.

My book, Pelican Beakon, earned a silver medal at 2017 Florida Authors and Publishers Association President's Book Award in the short story fiction category. The Pelican Beakon is a newspaper for pelicans, by pelicans, and their one staff human photographer who dreams of being writer. Read more about the Pelican Beakon on its website.
