Dear Ms. Mason,
I'm glad that you were my mentor. Throughout the year, you have taught me a lot of different things about culinary. You had me help with a lot of different events. You taught me more about the math of baking and the baker's percentage. I want to thank you for all that you have done for me. Even though you only taught me for a year, you have taught me a lot.
Abstract
My essay was about culinary arts baking. In my essay, I talked the science of baking, decoration skills, and the math of baking. All of these topics are very important when you are trying to become a baking. You need math so your product won't come out terrible. Decoration is important when you are trying to get people to buy your baked goods. Science of baking would include changing up the recipe or things similar to that.

Research Paper
Once I graduate from high school, I would like to become a baker. In baking, you would have to know the science of it. You’ll have to learn how to create designs while decorating the cakes. You will also need math in baking. To become a baker, you have certain steps you need to meet such as science, be creative, and knowing your math.
Baking includes science! Any changes to a recipe such as adding too much baking powder or over mixing the batter can make a difference in a moist cupcake or a hockey puck (Charlie Boss, 2013). Some of the most common ingredients in baking are flour, baking powder, baking soda, eggs, butter, sugar, and milk. Each of these ingredients have its own job. Salt is also an important key in baking. Salt helps preserve the color and it also strengthens the gluten protein in the dough (Robert Gray, 2013).
Baking requires decorative skills. You may want to add more decoration to a cake or cookies. You can add designs onto the side of a cake by using a decorator tip. For example, you can make Christmas cookies and use icing and sprinkles to decorate them. When you are decorating, you have to be sure you take your time so you won’t mess up. Being creative with your product can bring in more customers.
Math in baking is very important! You use special tools such as measuring cups, spoons and scales (Kelly Chester, 2016). Sometimes in baking, fractions are needed. Bakers need to know how to measure out ingredients so they don’t add too much. If you add too much, this can mess up the whole product. Recipes require different amount of times and temperature control is very important. The use of measuring impact the serving size (Kelly Chester, 2016).
In conclusion, practice would have to be a major key for me. Once again you will have to know the science of baking. You need to know how to be creative when decorating cakes or “plating” items. Measuring out ingredients correctly is very important. Being a baker, will help people with their sweet tooth if they are craving for something sweet.
Senior Project Self-Reflection
When I presented my senior project, I think I should have practiced my timing. So it could at least reached to the 5-7 minute requirement. I also should have explained my pictures more. Other than that, I think I did good on my presentation.
Product/Community Service Reflection
When I made my product, it was pretty simple because I have made it plenty of times before. It usually takes me about 20 minutes to make it. I believe the class liked the product because some of them asked for another one.
