Why does this topic matter?

  • a matter of equality
  • lead to a redefinition of marriage
  • Love can be expressed in many ways without it being wrong
  • Religion is put into issue
  • Isn’t normal for same-sex couple to adopt and start a family, it creates a bad social life for kids or it’s a distraction
  • Common belief that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, which makes the definition of same-sex marriage wrong as marriage should allow all lovers to experience it no matter the culture, religion, or race.
  • Gays and lesbians were denied the right to marry and were looked at as people who didn’t belong, shouldn’t marry because it isn’t traditional, and that it isn’t right in their opinion. It doesn’t protect the “sanctity” of marriage or that marriage is a “sacred trust”.
Support from others
  • Gives gays and lesbians their freedom and equality that they have been needing.
  • Doesn’t harm traditional marriage, the traditional marriage rate has either gone up, remained stable, or declined consistent with other countries in the region that do not recognize same-sex marriage.
  • Same-sex couples can start their own family
  • decrease teen suicide rate
  • decrease divorce rate
