8 Characteristics of Life
adaptation through evolution - It is any alteration in the structure or function of an organism or any of its parts that results from natural selection and by which the organism becomes better fitted to survive and multiply in its environment.
metabolism - A collection of chemical reactions occurring within the body (or cell). These reactions vary in form and function but promote processes such as protein synthesis, chemical digestion, cell division, or energy transformation.
reproduction - The process by which new organisms (offsprings) are generated. There are two main types of reproduction: these include sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction.
cellular organization - living things are made of cells. Cells are the most basic unit of life.
Growth and development - addition of mass to an organism and the process that occurs in an organism's life that results in a more complex organism.
response to stimuli - Anything from the environment that causes some sort of reaction.
homeostasis - ability to maintain a stable internal condition.
