Principal's Message

On behalf of our wonderful school community I would like to give a warm welcome to both our existing and new Wattle Grove families. We hope that your family’s time at Wattle Grove will be enriching and rewarding. I am very excited to be joining the Wattle Grove Community as your new Principal and 2017 promises to be another great year of learning. I have been very impressed by the professionalism of the staff and behaviour of our students as they settle into their new classes. Wattle Grove Public School’s reputation is very positive and I look forward to continuing to showcase our school’s achievements and new ways of enhancing the educational outcomes for our students.

We trust the holiday break was very relaxing for everyone and your children feel excited and enthusiastic about starting a new school year. Yesterday, students were placed into their 2017 classes following two days of ‘holding classes’ until we finalised our enrolments and confirmed our staffing structure. This year we have enrolled 619 students forming 25 classes. A great deal of time and professional judgement has gone into the make-up of each class, with the academic, social and emotional best interest of each child considered. Maximising student learning is the key objective when forming classes each year. Establishing new friends and friendship groups is to be encouraged, as it broadens the student’s confidence and self-esteem and diminishes the dependence on a few limited friends who may leave the school and create a vacuum difficult to fill.

Please note that despite the students commencing school this week, staff returned to work last Friday and so this week is called week 2.

On behalf of staff and students, we would like to extend an invitation to all families to become involved in our school as partners in your child’s education. Parents and carers can help in many different ways and your contributions are highly valued by the staff and community. We are all looking forward to working constructively with all members of our school community in great partnership.
