It is a pleasure to finally be in role as the new head teacher at Swinton Queen Primary! I've had a fantastic first couple of days with children and staff - your children are so fabulous! We have welcomed children who are new to school in our nursery and they've settled in brilliantly already and I've been so amazed by the way that children have returned to the normality of school routines and been so sensibly behaved around school. I'm really looking forward to getting to know more of our children and to get on with the job of making sure that their time in school is the best that it can be.
Thank you to those of you who have taken the time to talk to me and help me to understand how the school can work more effectively. I'm keen to engage with parents over time to work with me to shape developments at our school. I'm particularly looking for more members of the school's governing body, so if you have a strong interest in engaging with the school and the leadership team then please let me know and I can discuss with you how the governor role would work. Our new staff team is really strong - we've made some great additions to the teaching team and I can see how well they're already impacting. Together, our key priorities for the school's development will be: To raise the quality of teaching and learning so that it is consistently good across the school; To lead key developments in school improvement to ensure that all areas of the school's work are consistently good; To develop an aspirational, progressive exciting and relevant curriculum for all subjects. We also need to have a very tight focus on the attendance of our children, as for too long the whole school attendance has been well below national expectations (this is not a reflection of covid related absences).
