ALTA TUTOR TRAINING

|| Arima 23rd April-8th June 2019 ||

|| San Fernando 25th April-29th May 2019 ||

|| Belmont 27th April-1st June 2019 ||

Every year between the months of April and May, ALTA runs a six week training course for potential tutors. The training course is known to be intense but extremely beneficial for prospective tutors, readying them almost completely for the ALTA classroom. The theoretical aspect of the training is completed in six sessions but the practical aspect is completed over one academic year in ALTA classrooms around the country. At the end of this, the trainee is certified as an ALTA tutor.

ALTA Tutors must complete at least 150 hours of voluntary work. At ALTA we consider this important. The dedication of new tutors is vital to the success of each student. Students turn to ALTA as a means of giving literacy a second chance. This is why new tutors must accept this chance as an important undertaking.

Let’s take a look at our ALTA Tutor Training over the past few years. In 2019 we did exponentially well with 109 participants completing the training course. South has made a comeback with 36 registered tutors. Arima made a registration number of 28 for this year.

Take a look at some of the comments made by our new tutors after the training progamme:

"Training was an amazing experience because: 1. It was really intense but at the end of it, we felt that we learned so much. 2. It actually placed us in the shoes of the students because the same techniques that will be taught to the ALTA students are what was taught to us." - Alana-Marie.G
"It was a lot more than I expected. I had underestimated the scope of the whole training. It was a pleasant challenge and I am really looking forward to being on the ALTA team"- Cecil.M
"It was really informative and intensive. It was enjoyable and I learned a lot." - Stephanie.A

NALIS YOUTH LIT PROGRAMME 2018-2019

The NALIS Youth Lit Programme has completed another successful academic year. This programme is a collaboration between NALIS and ALTA and it is funded by the Bermudez Group of Companies. Classes were held in ten libraries throughout the country with one hundred and fifteen children between the ages of nine and fifteen, receiving remedial tuition to help them cope with their school work.

In June, Youth Lit tutors and library staff got together to arrange Graduation ceremonies for the students. A total of 35 Level 1 certificates and 26 Level 2 certificates were awarded. Some students will be invited back next year to enable them to fully grasp the skills taught in the programme.

The St James Library students were asked to express their feelings about the programme which they put together in a poem. They read this poem out loud at their Graduation.

Baccarat Crystal has, from the beginning, affixed its signature on strong works illustrating all the facets of artistic craftsmanship and covering a vast repertoire of inspiration.

Stylish, Elegant and Unique!

In 1764 King Louis XV of France gave Bishop Montmorency-Laval of Metz permission to found a glassworks in the village of Baccarat located in Lorraine in eastern France.

The creations of great artists inspired by the magic of crystal are all magnificent stones brought together into building the Art de Vivre collection.

It makes for an exquisite centre piece.

This is how Baccarat perpetuates the great French tradition of a cosmopolitan art of living. Envisioned by Philippe Starck, the Baccarat House in Paris, home to the brand's headquarters, is a meeting place for its most beautiful creations and one of its most beautiful manifestations.
