What's Happening

Hello All! This past month has been quite exciting in our math classroom. For start, we got a new JMU practicum student, Ms. Bataille! She is studying to become a teacher and has gotten very involved in our class.

We started to use a new behavior management tool called Class Dojo. Students are placed into groups, and these groups are awarded for good behavior. Groups are expected to work together to solve problems in a safe and mature way. Examples of awarded behavior include being prepared for class, remaining on task, and participating in class discussion. The students seem to really enjoy it! The group with the most points at the end of the day gets some homework questions eliminated. The group with the most points for the month of February was the yellow group. Way to go Yellow! For the rest of the class, keep your eyes on the prize!

In class, we have done a lot of work with equations, inequalities and graphing on the coordinate plane with linear functions. It is very important to keep practicing these skills, because practice makes perfect!

In the month ahead, we are going to be starting a new homework system. Be sure to check with your student once they find out the details! We are also going to be experimenting with the smartphone app "Remind". Keep your eyes peeled for additional updates! Let us know if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
