The Etruscans

The Eyruscans are the first people to live in north Italy. They create a beautiful culture. Etruscan ruins remain today. Archeologists continue to study then. On rare occasions, new Etruscan ruins are discovered.

Although archeologists have studied the Etruscans, they know little about them. Archeologists cannot read the Etruscan language. All we know comes from two sources: what we dig up and what the Romans tell us. The Romans are bitter enemies of the Etruscans. They are not about to say anything nice about the Etruscans. They may exaggerate the "bad" features of the Etruscans. This is what historians call bias. Even eyewitnesses can be bias if they hate some involved in what they report.

From what we have learned from the Eyruscan artifacts, these people live a rich cultural life. They had large stone buildings. They are healthy, athletic people. They do seem to enjoy partying.
