The Silver Screen Tahoma takes home the awards

Seniors Carson Weisberg, Aaron Marienau, Bennett Campbell, Jake Marston, and juniors Caroline Lathrop, and Joshua Hren

On May 1st, Mr. Haag took some of his students from Video Productions to the 2018 Northwest High School Film festival. There, the group won four awards, two for suspense, one for an Educational/Informational/Video essay, and a final one for a highlight feature. When it was time to show the videos on the big screen, each person had a similar reaction to seeing their piece shown. The event was an inspiration for all who attended.

"[It felt] extremely inspiring and humbling to see everyone's work and how they worked towards a common goal. It was a great way to end senior year video productions and it was fun going with everyone," said senior Bennett Campbell, one of the winners of the suspense awards. "It was crazy to see my film on the Cinerama. It was humbling to have a piece on screen. I'm proud of the program and the people I worked with. Our film is about a man who finds himself in a house with more questions than he can answer." Senior Carson Weisberg was the other creator for this piece.

"I was really shocked. It was the first award of the day for Tahoma, and I saw the beginning f my piece on the big screen. I was really shocked and happy that I got to bring home an award and that my hard work paid off," said junior Joshua Hren, winner of the educational award. "The event was really inspiring. I saw a bunch of people interested in the same things, and it was cool to see how other schools make things compared to ours." Junior Zachary Klobutcher worked on this film as well, but was not able to attend the festival. "Our film was about the MLK assembly. I thought it was really informative about what Martin Luther King Jr. did to society and how it has changed everyone's view point on it," said Klobutcher.

"It was really cool to see all the other films and their level of quality and the maturity of them all," said junior Caroline Lathrop. She won the award for the feature on Tahoma's PAC. "I really wasn't expecting to see my film. I spent hours staring and tweaking it. The appreciation for it was phenomenal and honoring. It makes me want to create more. My film was a highlight feature abut the opportunities the new PAC has given us. It's about who can appreciate it and what the many features we can utilize are. I thought it deserved a feature."

The final video was created by seniors Jake Marston and Aaron Marienau. It was a suspense film called Discretion.

Tahoma's Video Productions will be taking place in the Insomniac's Challenge this weekend.
