A significant advancement in cardiovascular care is now available along the West Michigan Lakeshore. Residents can choose to have a vital heart procedure performed at Holland Hospital rather than traveling to a heart center located in Grand Rapids or Muskegon.
The procedure, known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), restores blood flow through blocked or narrowed heart vessels. PCI treatment includes thrombectomy, balloon angiography and coronary stenting.
Emergency PCI for patients having a heart attack has been performed at Holland Hospital since May of 2005 with exceptional life-saving results. Recent changes in state regulations mean that our experienced cardiovascular team can now perform PCI for patients who are at high risk for a future heart event, but are not currently experiencing heart attack – so-called elective PCI.
