St. Dominic thought the church needed to combat this heresy, and was appointed to teach against it.

Dominic was successful with ordinary people, but not with the leaders.

After Damascus II died, Leo IX was appointed pope by Emperor Henry III of Germany.

Leo IX had the nickname The Pilgrim Pope because of all his church councils and his travels around Europe.

Leo IX wanted the Roman Catholic church to become the heart of all Christianity.

It is said that St. Francis of Assisi received the stigmata two years before he died.

St. Francis of Assisi set up the first known Nativity scene to celebrate Christmas in 1220.

St. Francis of Assisi said "Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words."
