Alaska, Northwest of Canada, is the largest and most isolated part of the United States. The cold temperatures makes it a very hard terrain to live in.

Alaska is one of the best places on the Planet to see the Northern lights
Roughly 5 percent of Alaska is covered by the 1 000 plus glaciers in the United States, making Alaska a very uncomfortable and hard terrain to live in.
Being off grid is another reason for Alaska being so isolated.
