We are looking forward to the Christmas magic that this time of year brings. We will still try to include many special events ...as well as including a few new ones too!
Raising money for our community.
This year we would like to do something different and we need your support. Due to the difficult times that we are all experiencing due to the COVID situation all staff would like to suggest that instead of buying a present for the class adults, that parents make a donation to a local cause...thereby helping anyone who is finding times hard. As we are unable to raise funds through parents attending concerts/Christmas fairs we wondered if parents would like to donate this money to help others.
Instead if buying presents for teachers we would like to suggest families who are able to donate to this page which would enable us to support families in our community during this difficult time. The money will be used to buy food shop vouchers for families in need this Christmas due to the COVID situation. We have set up a 'go fund me' page linked below.
Any families who would appreciate this support please contact school and we will help in anyway we can.
Miss Upton volunteers every Tuesday evening to help support Barnsley homeless adults. This charity depends on voluntary contributions and we would like to suggest a possible donation to this charity through the link below. As part of Shelter's Big Walk event, a group of volunteers (plus family and friends) are joining together to walk 17km (approx. 10 1/2 miles) around Barnsley, to not only support Shelter, but also provide funding to help meet local homeless and rough sleeping needs.
This team of volunteers go out each and every night, whatever the weather, to support those who are most in need across Barnsley. Through the general public's kind donations we're able to offer some food, as well as useful items (such as sleeping bags, warm coats, hats, gloves, flasks, hand warmers etc), some guidance and support on how to progress from their current situation, as well as just being someone there to talk to.
Another great cause is our local food bank which helps our local families get through difficult times.
Dates for your Diary
Tree Decorating Competition - 27.11.2020
On Friday 27th November, each class will be decorating their own Christmas tree thanks to Barnsley Alliance for donating them and Twiggs for planting them. We are extremely grateful and the children can't wait! It' s a bit of extra Christmas magic for our children, families and community.
Flu Immunisation - 30.11.2020
The NHS will be in school on Monday 30th November to conduct the flu immunisations for Reception to Year 6 classes. Only children who's parents have given permission by completing the online form for their child will receive the immunisations.
This year we would still like to deliver our annual Christmas events as we have in previous years, however things will be a bit different due to the COVID restrictions. Unfortunately we are unable to hold concerts ... but we are working on an alternative ... watch this space!!
Our annual Christmas dinner will be delivered over two days, therefore we are requesting that those pupils who are not participating in the hot meal that day to bring a packed lunch. Any child who receives free school meals will be provided with the option of a school packed lunch on this day, alternatively they can bring a meal from home. By introducing these procedures we are still able to offer our Christmas dinner whilst maintaining social distancing Government guidance. The only option for these two days will be Christmas dinner - if your child does not like a Christmas dinner, if possible please provide a packed lunch for this day.
Wednesday 9th December - Christmas dinner for Reception and Key Stage 1 children ( years 1 & 2). Key Stage 2 children (Year 3 - Year 6) - packed lunch.
Thursday 10th December - Christmas dinner for Key Stage 2 ( Year 3 - Year 6), Reception and Key Stage 1 - packed lunch.
Please note that all children can wear Christmas jumpers on 9th, 10th and 11th of December.
Save the Children - 11.12.2020
Children are invited to school wearing a Christmas jumper for a donation of £1 which will go to save the children.
Due to the COVID guidance could we ask that any Christmas cards for the children be put in the class box by Friday 11th December. This will then enable us to quarantine the cards over the weekend then give them out to children during the last week - Thank you!
Party Day - 18.12.2020
Friday 18th December will be our party day. The day will be fun filled with Christmas activities and include a "Happy Meal' at lunchtime. The children will be offered a choice of chicken goujons or burger with curly fries, a drink and Christmas ginger bread man. This will be delivered in a party box. A vegetarian option will also be available.
What's been happening in school?
Children in Need
We enjoyed having fun dressed in our spots. We also streamed a live exercise challenge where different staff kept the exercise bike going all day - even Mr Wilson joined in! - This was in response to Joe Wicks challenge for Children in Need around being active!
All together we managed to raise an amazing £526 for children in need! We are extremely proud to be part of Ward Green Primary. Thankyou all for your kind donations for Pudsey.
Friendship week & Autism Awareness
We all wore our silly/odd socks on for friendship week as well as raising awareness of Autism!
