Troybery 2018 Titles Revealed!
The TSD Middle School Media Department is excited to announce the finalized list of potential books that have been chosen for our Troybery 2018 reading program, which can be found at the link below, just in time for your holiday shopping! A mock-Newbery program, the Troybery Program has encouraged Troy middle school students since 2000 to read the best middle grade books published that year and then vote on their favorites. Many fantastic books have won over the past 17 years, and we look forward to seeing what the TSD students think of our candidates for this year. Changes implemented to Troybery last year will continue this year. We will start with a list of 30 potential Troyberys, and students will help narrow the list down to the Top Ten in March through a Troybery March Madness Tournament. The winner will be announced at the 18th Annual Troybery Awards Ceremony on April 27. All students need to do is read any three books from the Potential Troybery list in order to participate. We highly recommend that you review this list with your child and also familiarize yourself with the titles so that you can be sure your child is reading books appropriate for him/her and that meet your family guidelines. Our list includes high and low level books, a variety of genres, as well as titles more appropriate for mature readers which are noted with an asterisk. We have done this to appeal to our 7th and 8th graders, who, according to our statistics, were less interested in participating in Troybery in the past because the books felt too "young" for them. How do books end up on our potential Troybery list? The media specialists seek input from students and teachers. When we hear students and teachers raving about a book, see students talking about the book on our Schoology group, or see many kids submitting the same book title to our form, we add it to the stack of books to consider. For a book to be considered for the Troybery candidates list, it must be published in 2017, must be a middle grade book, and must be a stand-alone or first book in a series. We will only have five copies of each of these books to start out, and we appreciate you visiting the Troy Public Library or purchasing copies to enable your child to get a copy!
Attention parents of current 7th graders- there will be an informational meeting for all parents interested in sending their students to Washington, DC next year. The meeting will be held on January 11th at 7 pm. We will be talking about the itinerary, travel dates and costs. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Lee, email@example.com. Hope to see you there!
