CP Fall Formal Coming Up

On Friday, October 19th, the CP Student Government will be hosting the Fall Formal at JPEC from 6-8 p.m. in Rm 158. Students will want to dress in their "Sunday Best," i.e. dresses, formal skirt and top, or dress pants and a nice button-up shirt and clean shoes. The cost of the dance will be $5.00 ahead of time and $8.00 at the door. Cost includes pizza and pop. Please contact Mrs. Houle for any questions at kelly.houle@jacksonpec.org.

Khan Academy Permission Slips - All Students Must Turn In

Permission slips for students to create Khan Academy sites went home last week. Every student needs to turn-in a signed permission slip in order for the school to create this account, which is used for additional practice and instruction as well as SAT Prep during Focus Groups. They are also available in the front office or from Ms. Lloyd. Please get them signed and turned-in ASAP.

Computers & AUP's - EVERYONE, PLEASE READ!

Computers have been assigned to students and given out to take home if both a signed AUP and deposit have been submitted. If you have not completed this process and need assistance with the $75.00 deposit, please click the links below to find information regarding our Title 1 assistance. Families with financial need may qualify for Title 1 funds which can be used towards computer deposits as well as other costs, such as athletic fees. We do not want financial issues to be a barrier for our students. Please read the information letter and instructions on filling out the form, and if you need assistance, please contact Alex Ulicny at alex.ulicny@jacksonpec.org. Forms and deposits can be turned-in to the front office or directly to Alex.

Challenge Day Forms Due Tomorrow!

All CP2 (7th grade) students will attend Challenge Day on Wednesday, November 7th, here at Jackson College. Challenge Day is a transformational day of fun, leadership and experiences that can forever change the way people view each other. Ms. Lloyd spoke to Focus Groups on Monday, Sept. 17th about JPEC's experiences with Challenge Day over the past three years and handed out letters of invitation, permission slips, and adult volunteer forms. It's a program we firmly believe in, and want ALL of our CP2 students to attend. All Challenge Day forms are attached below. Please read, sign and return the permission slip by TOMORROW, Monday, October 1st!. If you have an interest in being an adult volunteer, please read the attached information sheet.

CP3 Washington DC Trip Informational Meeting

An informational meeting will be held this Thursday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. at JPEC for all CP3 students enrolled in HIS 080, and any EC1 student who took HIS 080 last year. Students should plan on attending with their parents/guardians.

Cell Phones In Class

Just a reminder to all CP students and families: the use of cell phones is not permitted in class. You may check your phones in between classes or at lunch, but they must remain off or on silent and out of sight while in the classroom unless specifically stated otherwise by your teachers.

Smile! Picture Day is Coming Up Tuesday!

Lifetouch will be at JPEC this Tuesday, October 9th for school pictures. Information will be distributed in Focus Group classrooms. CP students will be allowed to wear casual clothes for picture day. Even if you choose not to purchase pictures, all students will be photographed in order to create student ID's. If you have questions about picture day, please contact Alex Elfe at alex.elfe@jacksonpec.org.

Lunch Reminder & Pizza Wednesdays

Please be sure to bring a healthy lunch each day! It's so important in helping our students to be able to focus and learn in the afternoon. Microwaves are available for use if needed. Students, remember that we eat outside unless it is announced that we are staying inside due to weather. Please make sure you are cleaning up all trash before heading back inside for class. Thank you for helping keep our campus clean.

Pizza will be available for purchase on Wednesdays! Cost is $2.00 for one slice, or $3.00 for two slices. Healthy snacks and drinks are also available for purchase from Ms. Shaw.

Student Absences

Parents: Please be sure to call the front office as soon as possible in the morning if your child is ill and is going to be absent. It is important for us to be able to keep accurate attendance records, and this will help! The office phone # is 768-7093. If your student is absent due to a medical or dental appointment, please bring a doctor's note so we can excuse the absence. Thank you!

Beginning Band - Mrs. Ortell

Parents of incoming beginning band students:

Beginning band will be starting at the beginning of November. Students wishing to participate in beginning band will have band for about an hour once a week. The reason for us meeting just once a week is so students can be grouped in sections according to which instruments they play. This gives them more direct instruction.

I will be in classrooms this month to have students fitted for the instruments that will best suit them. At that point, they may choose which one they prefer. Students are encouraged to rent instruments if possible. It is a rent-to-own program and you can end the agreement early if your child decides not to stay with band. In addition to that, the instruments are fully insured if, for any reason, your student’s instrument is broken, damaged or lost. Should you choose to purchase your students instrument outright, whether you choose used or new, I would ask that you check with me before you purchase. Some instruments are not high-quality and are not going to give your student the best chance at success. If you have an instrument on-hand and would like to know if it is a good one, feel free to bring it in and I will be happy to take look at it. Estimates on repairs with our music/instrument supplier are free.

Note: I do not start students on percussion. French horn, oboe or bassoon are also discouraged as these instruments tend to be very difficult for beginners. The instruments that the students may choose to start on are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, baritone and trombone. I hope to have a large group of students with which to work this fall! Please consider encouraging your student to try band!
