The Baker Blast Back to School Edition

Registration Day Photos, August 16, 2018

Registration day was a success. We had approximately 80% of our families return to Baker excited for the start of the school year. We understand that there are several families still out of town and several students participating in summer camp. If you were unable to attend registration, do not worry. Please contact the main office secretary Joan Pangrcic jpangrcic@troy.k12.mi.us to schedule a time to come pickup your child's schedule and iPad. Their picture will be taken on our picture make-up day September 11th. I'd like to thank our teacher, parent, and student volunteers who helped make this event a success. We appreciate the parent feedback we received and will continue to reflect and strive to make improvements to the registration process.

Schedule Changes: Parents we appreciate your patience as we engage in the schedule change process. Our counselors have received schedule change forms and are in the process of reviewing and attempting to honor the submitted requests. Please be aware that many factors contribute to the scheduling process like class size limits and the time that your desired class is offered. Please know that we will make many efforts and attempts to place your child in their desired courses.

Transportation: During the week of August 24th, instructions including bus numbers, stops and times will be emailed to the families. Please be sure to confirm your assigned bus number with your child. This will be extremely important when they look for their bus at the end of the school day. The first day of school Tuesday, August 28th is a half-day. Students will attend all 6 of their classes and receive their syllabi along with other important information about their classes. Students taking courses at the high school and elementary students taking math courses at Baker will attend their home school only on the first day school. Shuttles will only run on full and early release days. Follow up communication and reminders will be sent when the shuttles are not running.

Emergency Cards: By now everyone should be aware that we moved to an online emergency card. You should have received instructions and an assigned confidential Snapcode for each of your children. Thank you everyone who completed this process prior to schedule pickup. If you have not completed this process yet, please click on the Online Emergency Card link and enter your TSD assigned confidential 15-character Snapcode to complete the online Student Emergency Card for each of your children. Please keep in mind that Snapcodes can only be used once. If you accidentally submit your form while it is incomplete, our secretaries will have to update your account for you. If you have problems completing the online Student Emergency Card, please e-mail parentportal@troy.k12.mi.us.

Student Responsibility Form: Students picking up their iPads will need to complete a Student Responsibility Form. This year the school district is offering an optional insurance policy to cover damage and breaks. Please click on the following link to access the forms.

Adventure Island

Adventure Island Photos, August 13, 2018

Adventure Island: This year we had over 175 students participate in Adventure Island. It is exciting to see so many of our future Bobcats dedicating time out of their summer break to plan and prepare for the start of the school year. Students that participate in this program have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the building, some of their teachers, and several of their new classmates. This program has proven to help the transition from elementary to middle school. We appreciate the hardworking and energy that our teachers put into making this a special experience for our students.

The Last Week Before the Start of School

6C's at Baker Middle School: Authentic, innovative, deep learning through innovative instructional design.

Next week the Baker staff and educators across the OneTROY community will engage in professional learning opportunities that are focused on the OneTroy mission of ensuring learning for all. We are excited about the variety of professional learning sessions that were developed to support teachers as they consider ways to deepen learning for your students, cultivate a collaborative culture, and focus the direction of student learning. Rest up and enjoy the week. We are looking forward to seeing you on the first day of school, Tuesday August 28th!
