WELCOMING OUR NEW NETWORK COORDINATOR

It has been a pleasure to be the Network Coordinator for the IMN-PN. I enjoyed the many relationships created and hope to find ways to continue working with everyone. I have now moved into my new role as the Network Coordinator for the British Columbia Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (BC NEIHR) and welcome Jess Barton to the IMN-PN in my place. Hello everyone! My name is Jess and I'm very excited to be taking over the Network Coordinator role for the IMN-PN. I'm a UVic Anthropology grad and have a background in Archaeology, working with Indigenous communities across BC. My passions revolve around revitalizing ancestral knowledge, medicine and practices. IMN-PN CALL FOR RESEARCH EXPERIENCES

  • Do you or your organization have any upcoming priority wellness-related research projects for which you require the assistance of an Indigenous research assistant/ student intern?
  • We are looking for opportunities for students! One of the funding opportunities available is the Research Experience Award, which provides $1,000-$2,000 (depending on level of study) to Indigenous students proposing to undertake a wellness-related research project initiated by and of interest to an Indigenous community or organization. These projects may involve, for instance, assisting with a community-level knowledge translation event, land-based research activity, community research engagement meeting, environmental scan or literature review. These research experiences are overseen by academic and community or organizational Mentors, who will provide guidance, supervision and mentorship to the Mentees.

Jordan's Principle Scholarship

  • Named in loving memory of Jordan River Anderson, the Jordan's Principle Scholarship will be awarded to First Nations students studying children's health or children with disabilities.

CRE’s Centre for Indigenous Policy and Research: Indigenous Youth Research Grants

  • This program provides small grants to Indigenous youth who want to design, develop, and implement their own community-based research projects in Canada. Small grants of $1000 will be provided to successful applicants to implement their project.
  • This program is designed to ignite grassroots youth-led research projects and to highlight emerging researchers in new ways. No research experience needed, just a desire to learn and produce research that matters to youth and their communities.

Seasonal Hydroacoustic Vessel Operator

  • The Pacific Salmon Commission (PSC) is hiring for a few Seasonal Hydroacoustic Vessel Operator positions for the period from late June late August, possibly early September (~2- month contract). Based at the Mission Hydroacoustic field site in Abbotsford, BC, vessel operators will collect hydroacoustic data while piloting a 7-metre (22ft) vessel across the Fraser River. Successful applicants will become familiar with fisheries hydroacoustics while contributing towards the assessment of sockeye salmon populations for fisheries management as part of an international fisheries agency.

Research Assistant: Systems with Traditional Ecological Knowledge

  • A critical mandate for CIOOS is meaningful and appropriate engagement and partnership with Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Innu, and Métis) governments, organizations, and communities to explore the potential for sharing ocean data when and where appropriate, ensuring Indigenous sovereignty and Indigenous rights are recognized. Associate Director

  • Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director ensures good management of the ACEH (Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness) office, financial procedures, projects, and grants. In collaboration with the Executive Assistant, the Associate Director supports the day-to-day operations in a professional and efficient manner. The Associate Director will also lead fundraising initiatives through proposal writing. To support the work of the Executive Director, the Associate Director will be highly engaged at various local key tables, committees, and working groups in collaborations with the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness, the Capital Regional District, as well as other partners.
  • Qualifications: equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the work (social work, management, and/or policy, etc.), experience minimum one year of management experience, experience minimum two years in development and/or coordination work with Indigenous communities and organizations

  • Reporting to the Executive Director, the Bookkeeper supports the good management of the financial procedures of the ACEH (Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness). This position is responsible for full cycle bookkeeping and financial management including preparing financial reports for the Board and funders, tracking and filing GST, WCB, and payroll deductions. This position is new to the ACEH and requires a candidate who is willing to work independently and maintain financial processes for the ACEH’s various projects and housing
