Caste: social inequality How DOES the persistance of caste dispite its illegality affect modern day indians socially

In my research I investigated the question: "How does the persistance of caste dispite its illegality affect modern day indians socially". I researched this question because I was interested in how the great ancient legacy of castes carried its legacy throughout time. What I was specifically trying to see was how in modern day, are indians' lives affected and how does this legacy dictate their lives socially.

After researching this question I found that this great ancient legacy has gone from a good thing to now in modern day life a bad thing. It used to be a great part of indian culture but now has just brought up issues and unfair inequalities to two thirds of the population of india. Some examples of social unfairness that this has caused are that certain people cant get certain jobs, make a certain amount of money, get a certain type of education or even marry who they want to marry.

In doing my research I also came up with new questions that helped me portray my main questions. Some of these questions are:

What happened to the legacy of the caste?

After india was separated from Britain they wanted to live in a fair and equal society because they thought the realized that the caste system made india have under a over privileged people and it wasnt equal. Because of this india made a new constitution that allowed equality by making castes illegal.

What was done to try and stop or solve the issue of social inequality because of the persistance of caste?

This social problem because of castes has grown to be such a bad problem that it was brought to the 2001 UN meeting where people asked the UN to pass some kind of resolution to try and stop the big issues that the legacy of castes has created.

This problem was still not resolved and then brought back to the UN in 2007 where the UN blamed indias government for not controlling and handling this situation. The UN blamed them because there were around 165 million reports of caste inequality in india and this issue needed to be handled.

How does the persistance of caste despite the illegality of it affect indian's socially?

Even though castes became illegal in india, the importantes of it from so long ago carried the legacy to modern day india ans its stuck with them. Indians can be over privileged or under privileged and those who are underprivileged have been deeply affected for a long time. After the UN meeting there was finally a national quota system where every job must have a certain amount of certain types of people and this allowed underppriviliged indias to still be able to get good jobs.

Although this problem wasn't completely resolved it was fixed and gave the underprivileged something to work with.
