Things we do in S.T.E.A.M. By: Natalie Abril

The STEAM academy is probably one of the most educational experiences that I've had as well as having fun in the process. We have so many opportunities that you can't find in your regular classroom. One of the advantages that you will be able to have if you join STEAM is called project time.

In project time, we have different tasks for different quarters of the year. Our very first project was on the first day of school. We had received spaghetti strands and marshmallows and had to make the tallest tower. The second project was when we had to create our own roller coaster cart to 3D print.

The third, and probably most fun, was our future city project. Future city is something that is world wide and is for any STEAM student. In the project, you have to build a model, write an essay, have a presentation, and work on SimCity. It took us about 3 months to complete, but it was all worth it in the end. We first have a competition between 7th and 8th grade STEAM to see who will make it to the state competition between every team in Arizona. If you win the state competition, you could even make it to Washington D.C. for finals.

Another one, and probably my favorite, was we got to design the sets for our school play, The Little Mermaid. They divided the whole STEAM academy into different set pieces. It was lots of fun. We got to paint, build, and watch the play and get to see our amazing projects on stage. It takes a lot of team work and overall, It takes a team to get the job done.
