Read Together Plus

On Thursday 20 September at 3.15p.m Mrs Crichton will take a session which will be a follow on from the Reading Together Programme which some of you have attended. However you do not have to have attended that programme before coming to this session. Parents of students in Years 2 or 3 will find this helpful. Using some of the reading books the students use, we will focus on a few of the comprehension strategies that your children are learning to use to help them understand more about what they are reading. The session will be about 1 hour long and teachers will be available to look after your children for this time. We can take a maximum of 15 at this session.

Field of Dreams

Last month four of our Year 6 children met with Rick Pickard from the John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation and Katherine Sugarman from the Community Swim Programme. We are very thankful for the free swimming lessons that the FYFoD Foundation provide for our Year 3 - Year 6 children to participate in each year. Plus our Year 6 children got to put their swimming skills into practise during a day at the Whitewater Park. Our representatives delivered thank you letters on behalf of their classes.

Thank you Find Your Field of Dreams, Community Swim and Vector Wero Whitewater Park.

Reading Open Morning

Todays Reading Open Morning was a huge sucess with 86 parents and caregivers attending. It was wonderful to see so many parents and caregivers supporting our children and participating in our daily reading programme. The children really loved sharing their learning and they certainly are very proud to have visitors in their classrooms.

APPA Choir Tickets

Yeasterday our Year 5 & 6 choir children attended a combined rehearsal. They will be performing at the APPA Music Festival in the Auckland Town Hall on the 7th of November. Tickets can be pre-purchased through our school office until 14 September. Our school choir has enjoyed preparing for the Auckland Primary Principals Association Music Festival.

House Murals

Last month our new murals were completed depicting our four houses - Kowhai, Totara, Kauri and Rimu. The murals were completed by local artists Karyn Fisher and Sandra Russell with help from some amazing Chapel Downs Artists.

Photo Life

Next Tuesday 11th September all children throughout the school will be having their photographs taken. We would therefore ask that all children wear their correct school uniform including shoes.

Please return your Photolife orders back to school before Monday 10th September.

Sports Desk

Today our Boys Under 50kg and Boys Over 50 kg rugby teams represented Chapel Downs at the Otara School Rugby tournament at Barry Curtis Park. Both teams were 5th and all displayed great team work.

Camp Adair

Next Wednesday all of our Year 6 students will experience a three day camp as part of our annual Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) programme. EOTC programmes provide students with access to hands-on experiences that are not available inside the classroom. A huge thanks to wonderful parent helpers who are sacrificing their precious time to support our students.

Enrolments 2018-2019

If your child is turning 5 in the next 12 months please ensure you enrol them as soon as possible. With the roll steadily growing at Chapel Downs this will enable us to keep a track of how many New Entrants we can expect in the future. Enrolment packs are available at the office.
