MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

We thought that you might like to see some of the work that is being done at home during the school closure - it is amazing to see how creative and inventive our students are. We will publish some more examples in our next Newsletter.

Jim Parker, Principal.

BBC 500 WORDS WRITING COMPETITION

Many congratulations to Josh, Enigma House, Julie and Ruth from Turing House for making it through to the next round in the BBC 500 Words Writing Competition, such an outstanding achievement.

Over 135,000 students from different schools all over the country entered their individual short stories into this prestigious competition which helps students, supported via their English teachers to enjoy writing and understand the importance of being able to put words on to paper so that others can enjoy their creations.

We are so proud of Josh, Julie and Ruth you are a credit to Lord Grey Academy showing that "Lord Grey Can!" Your hard work and commitment to this project can be clearly seen.

As an Academy we look forward to hearing how the next round of judging goes and would like to thank Miss Brett for all her amazing teaching and support with all students who entered the 500 Words Competition. We are looking forward to hearing in May if they have made it to the final 50 entries! Good luck everyone.

Great Work, during lockdown!

Miss Bruin received an amazing 'volcano research project' a few days ago from Brandon in Year 8. Well done Brandon a great achievement.

Fantastic Culinary Skills

Charlie, Year 7 has been practising his culinary skills whilst we have been in 'lockdown'! He has successfully made a Spanish omelette showing Lord Grey students can learn successfully at home. Well done Charlie, we are very proud of your achievements. lordgreycan! Miss Reynolds, Teacher of Spanish

A great Spanish omelette.

colour Wheels

Fantastic designs.

Some of our students spent the final week before the Easter break working to produce some incredibly creative and aesthetically pleasing colour wheels using objects in their home. Some fabulous creations, well done. Miss Palmer, Creative Technologies

DANCE STUDENTS WORKING HARD AT HOME

Some great work on show.

Charlie our Year 10 dance student, has been working particularly hard at home dancing! She has been learning the first few counts of 8 and a set of GCSE Dance phrases. All has been taught from a video as one of her 'work from home tasks'. She has also followed a live dance class and learnt a routine that her teacher had provided for all the dance students.

We then have Megan who has designed costumes for an imaginative piece of choreography. Megan has been working extremely hard on all of her dance work, completing it to a high standard and handing in every piece of work given to her. Miss Kean, Teacher of Dance

MK YOUTH PARLIAMENT

A new member of the MK Youth Parliament, destined for great things.

Congratulations Madi, who has been voted into the MK Youth Parliament. She is currently planning her first campaign 'free internet for all', particularly during this lockdown period when children are having to study at home. Mrs Wasway, Head of Turing House

EASTER PLAY PROVISION

Great fun was had during the Easter play provision. There was some fantastic creative activities, the biggest being our Butterfly Tree which is in honour of our wonderful NHS. We are hoping students will contribute by making small colourful butterflies, about 4cms x 4cms which will be attached to the branches.

MEXICAN CULTURE - POM POMS

Another event was to learn about Mexican Culture with Pom-Poms and sugar skulls; on another day we were busy baking and making fajitas, pizza (!), shortbread and fairy cakes. Mrs Whalley, Mr Selvester and Mrs Bowen were seen launching rockets in the playground and, it is rumoured that Mrs Whalley took a soaking! Mrs Dunn took the thirty minute 'Joe Wickes daily PE sessions' which everyone enjoyed. Fantastic work by everyone, well done. Mrs Wasway, Head of Turing House

WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER

We have been blown away by the fantastic work being put into action by Lord Grey Academy, our extended community and friends that are contributing to the general good at the moment. We have so many students working and volunteering in the community, and also staff members who are NHS volunteers etc., and/or doing good in other ways. Many of our ex-students are cropping up in important roles, such as being a dispenser in a Boots Pharmacy or working as an ICU nurse. Thank you to you all. Mrs Green, Teacher of Humanities
